Empowering employers to make a positive impact in healthcare. Stewardship is responsibility in action.
About us
The Pittsburgh Business Group on Health (PBGH) is an employer-led, non-profit, coalition of large, mid-size and small employers representing various business segments, including private and public employers, government and academia. Together, PBGH represents more than 100 organizations, over 1.2 million covered lives and more than $5 billion in health care costs. In the early 80s, the Pittsburgh business community believed that by working together, they could make a positive impact and drive change in the costs and delivery of health care. Twenty-one companies formed the Pittsburgh Business Group on Health to address issues facing large and midsize employers in the Pittsburgh region. While there has been progress in the quality and delivery of healthcare, rising health care costs continue to challenge most employers. Having influenced changes over the years, PBGH will continue to pursue its mission to promote education, collaboration, and innovation among members, and in the community, to drive and deliver value and quality in health care and benefits.

“I call it the ‘silent struggle,’ as it is not visible to the world, but patients experiencing it have significant effect to their quality of life,” shared Ksenia Aron, M.D. who is Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in the division of Otology and Neurotology - Lateral Skull Base Surgery. Hearing loss is so common but often goes unrecognized and/or untreated, which can affect so much more than just the ability to hear. Hearing loss can increase cognitive decline, social isolation, falls, and even depression. Great conversationalists lose their ability to engage with other people. https://lnkd.in/eFj5hVwC This World Hearing Day, empower yourself with concrete actions to protect your hearing with regular checkups and hearing protection when advised. https://lnkd.in/gpf6FqGC #PBGH #PBGHPA #PeopleYouTrust #hearingcare #safelistening #worldhearingday

Last week’s hearing with the House Committee on Energy and Commerce uncovered the negative impact traditional PBM’s have had on healthcare. But not for long – change is happening. Be ready with the help of AffirmedRx, a Public Benefit Corporation, a Just Benefits, a Public Benefit Company partner, who always put Patients over Profits. #PBGH #PBGHPA #PeopleYouTrust #Transparency #PatientsOverProfits
PBMs have had a stranglehold on drug pricing for too long—operating in the shadows, prioritizing profit, and leaving patients to suffer the consequences. But their grip is slipping. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. Yesterday’s House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing made that crystal clear. Chairman Buddy Carter didn’t hold back, exposing the brutal reality of PBM abuse. He shared the devastating story of 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗰𝗖𝗼𝘆, 𝗮 16-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗖𝗩𝗦 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸, landing her in the hospital. This isn’t some abstract policy debate—𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Shawn Gremminger pulled back the curtain on how 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱, forced to fork over billions to PBMs while trapped in a rigged system. The so-called "competition" among PBMs? A total illusion. The reality? PBMs have gamed the system to keep employers, patients, and even regulators in the dark. This isn’t just another round of empty talk. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. Bipartisan momentum is building. Investigations are deepening. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗕𝗠 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. The power shift has begun. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀—𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁? 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗥𝘅 𝗶𝘀. Let’s talk about how we’re leading the charge into a new era of pharmacy benefits.

Let’s amplify the call for more research funding and evidence-based treatments. Eating disorders impact people of all ages, genders, and races, and it’s time we ensure everyone has access to the care they deserve.
