We're thrilled to announce that the second phase of the University Line project kicks off later this month! This transformative project will bring lasting improvements to transit, biking, and walking along the Fifth & Forbes corridor in Uptown and Oakland—making it easier for our riders and communities to connect. Here’s what Phase II will deliver: ✅ 6 miles of new transit corridor ✅ Dedicated bus-only lanes for faster, more reliable service ✅ 18 new transit stations with enhanced amenities ✅ 4 miles of protected bike lanes for safer cycling ✅ Improved sidewalks, new trees, and sustainable infrastructure 🌳 Thanks to millions of dollars in federal investment, this project is set to enhance mobility and accessibility while supporting the vibrancy of our neighborhoods. We’ve been engaging with the community every step of the way, hosting an online meeting and two in-person gatherings last week, including one at Alumni Hall in Oakland. Last Thanksgiving, PRT employee Kevin Brown made a meaningful gesture by offering his packed lunch (a full Thanksgiving dinner!) to someone in need while commuting on the T. This single act of generosity sparked a tradition of giving within his family, including Debbie Dietrick and Valerie Boughanem. Fast forward to the 2024 holiday season, when Debbie, Valerie, and several of their friends came together to create care packages for individuals in need. These packages included gloves, hats, warm socks, hygiene products, and of course, a little candy to brighten spirits. The end result? 22 care packages were distributed (quickly!) near PRT’s Downtown Service Center just before Christmas! Looking ahead, Debbie hopes to grow this initiative next year, with a goal of 50 care packages and even providing meals to those in need. We are inspired by Kevin, Debbie, Valerie, and their friends for demonstrating the true spirit of the season and making a tangible difference in our community. #PublicTransit #CommunityEngagement #KindnessMatters #HolidayGiving #PRT #PRTProud
