Last Thanksgiving, PRT employee Kevin Brown made a meaningful gesture by offering his packed lunch (a full Thanksgiving dinner!) to someone in need while commuting on the T. This single act of generosity sparked a tradition of giving within his family, including Debbie Dietrick and Valerie Boughanem. Fast forward to the 2024 holiday season, when Debbie, Valerie, and several of their friends came together to create care packages for individuals in need. These packages included gloves, hats, warm socks, hygiene products, and of course, a little candy to brighten spirits. The end result? 22 care packages were distributed (quickly!) near PRT’s Downtown Service Center just before Christmas! Looking ahead, Debbie hopes to grow this initiative next year, with a goal of 50 care packages and even providing meals to those in need. We are inspired by Kevin, Debbie, Valerie, and their friends for demonstrating the true spirit of the season and making a tangible difference in our community. #PublicTransit #CommunityEngagement #KindnessMatters #HolidayGiving #PRT #PRTProud

In the summer of 2022, PRT began discussions with the City of Pittsburgh to improve the rider experience at the new Whole Foods Market on Penn Avenue. We proposed filling the area between the curb and sidewalk with concrete to create a firm and stable surface, allowing transit riders to safely board and alight from buses. Additionally, we suggested replacing the milk crate, which had been used by transit riders as a bench, with a proper bus shelter that included seating for added comfort. This initiative took over two years to complete, but we're pleased to share that, as of last week, transit riders now have a safe and comfortable bus stop! PRT funded the concrete foundation for the shelter pad, and the city installed one of their advertising shelters. Special thanks to our own Darcy Cleaver for her persistence with this project and the care she demonstrates daily for our riders. #project #initiative #PRT #riderexperience #Pittsburgh #safety

Join PRT in thanking operators Jerome Smith and Embry Williams for participating in an event that's a difference maker in the community. Last week, PRT was proud to provide transportation (via buses 6722 and 1722, expertly operated by Jerome and Embry) for Chartiers Valley High School life skills students and their families during the annual Shop with a Cop event at Raceway Plaza Shop ‘n Save and Walmart. This impactful event brought students together with local police officers to shop for $2,000 worth of groceries and other essential items. These donations will directly benefit the Bridgeville Area Food Pantry at Bethany Presbyterian Church, supporting families in need during the holiday season. We are honored to have played a small but meaningful role in facilitating this effort. Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication to making a difference. #CommunityImpact #PublicTransit #ShopWithACop #GivingBack #LifeSkills #PRT #HolidayGiving #TransportationMatters

Members of Pittsburghers for Public Transit (PPT) and Casa San Jose recently guided participants through a transit tour to introduce a group of new Pittsburgh residents, including members of the Latino community, to PRT's public transportation system. Riders took the T (our light rail system) downtown from Beechview and rode the bus to Oakland, making a few stops along the way. The tour concluded at PRT’s Downtown Service Center,, where tour guides assisted participants in using PRT’s Ticket Vending Machines and answered questions. For info about future tours, reach out to info@pittsburghforpublictransit.org. To learn more about PRT’s discounted fares, visit www.rideprt.org/fares. #publictransit #prt #accessibility #equity
