Virtual reality technology has brought fans courtside at NBA arenas. It’s taken gamers controlling NFL quarterbacks with a joystick inside those players’ helmets. Now, a coalition of sports industry thought leaders is investigating another potential #VR use case through a pilot with several prominent U.S. sports venues: frontline staff training. PIXO VR partnered with Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX), Intel Corporation, and Dell Technologies, to bring Virtual Reality training into these sports and entertainment venues: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Highmark Stadium, Comerica Park, Allegiant Stadium, and Caesars Superdome. 238 participants, whose job responsibilities ranged from guest services to security, participated in various virtual reality training sessions. IIFX and PIXO are offering sports and entertainment venue operators a VR training bundle, with one headset and access to five modules from four subject areas: safety, security, operations and soft skills. “We’re going to need some leaders,” said PIXO founder and CEO Sean Hurwitz. By training in #VR, employees will be able to step into a realistic and safe training environment to learn and display their skills. Last week, PIXO VR exhibited DevLearn_com, where large learning platforms, content development tools and other e-learning companies displayed their products and solutions. Read Sean Hurwitz's takeaways from the event, and how he's seen adoption take off. "The data has proven VR to be more engaging, life-like, less risky and less expensive, leading to less employee turnover, fewer accidents and higher profit margins," Hurwitz writes.
