Every child deserves a forever family, and today, that dream became a reality for many! Huge congratulations to the families who finalized their adoptions today — and special thanks to the dedicated judges, social workers and volunteers who made this day possible. In particular, we want to give a big shoutout to the Sugar Plump Fairies, who have been donating their time and talents to this event for over a decade now 🙏 Stay tuned for more stories from Adoption Day later this week!

👦🎁 Each year, we collect gifts for foster children and other children served by Health and Human Services, including our Children's System of Care. Each child is asked what they’d like for Christmas and then the request is notated on a tag. This year, The Goularte Group is again helping organize the drive for Placer County. Those interested in purchasing gifts for local foster children can visit this website to select a child and sign up: https://lnkd.in/gCQQsGph A holiday event will take place Dec. 7 at the Loomis Train Depot. Unwrapped gift donations will be collected from donors at this time and holiday celebrations will take place. More information is available at https://lnkd.in/g6QBiXGw

Winter is coming. That means our snowplows are too! Matt Randall, deputy director for Public Works, leads our Roads Division and previews the work we do in higher elevations to keep the county moving. In an average snowstorm, we’ll have about 250 miles to clear, but that can be as many as 600 miles in a low, cold storm. It’s one of the biggest, and hardest, snow-removal operations in the state. Our Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed October 12, 2024, as Auburn Municipal Airport Day, in recognition of the airport's 90 years of outstanding service to our community. Since its establishment in 1934, Auburn Municipal Airport has been a critical aviation hub, serving as a military facility during World War II and evolving into a key economic and workforce development asset. Today, the airport supports local jobs, offers valuable training programs for aspiring aviators and technicians, and plays a crucial role in emergency services, regional transportation, and tourism. As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we look forward to continued growth, innovation, and opportunity for both Placer County residents and the aviation community at large.

Char survived a war zone, but some of the toughest battles came after she returned home. Transitioning to civilian life, she struggled to find her footing — grappling with mental health and substance use challenges, as many veterans do. A car crash was her wake-up call, and Placer County Veterans Court became her lifeline. This Veterans Day, we invite you to listen to our latest episode of "The Placer Life" podcast as two local veterans share their stories of hope and healing.
