Placework hosted our first biophilic design workshop this week. Our client and frequent collaborator Chapman Construction/Design is pursuing Living Future's Living Building Challenge CORE certification for their upcoming headquarters renovation. As part of the process, the biophilic design workshop invites the team to explore the history and ecology of their place and identify how biophilic principles might be applied. Thank you to Allison Pagliaro of Historic Newton whose excellent presentation on the history of Newton grounded us in place, and to Matt Root of Materially Better (IES) and Mark Schow, P.E. of Elevated Design Inc. who leant their expertise throughout the day. It was a ton of fun and an important step that we’ll look forward to incorporating into all of our future projects.

2025 News to share – Alyssa has been appointed to the national AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) leadership group!
This month, I'll be joining the national AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) Leadership Group. I am a longtime fan of the work COTE has done to advance climate action in the profession. I look forward to working with 2025 Chair Robin Z. Puttock, AIA, LEED AP, WELL AP, my two new colleagues Katie Ackerly and Lindsey Dickes Falasca, and the rest of the COTE team to continue to transform the way we build.

We’ve been working away with our great partners at Agency Landscape + Planning, Landwise Advisors and VHB envisioning the future of Lebanon’s downtown waterfront. We’ve moved on from the furious sketching stage and are looking forward to sharing our progress with the Lebanon Downtown Economic Development Commission and TIF Advisory Board this evening!

Involvement in our local communities is central to Placework. Last week our own Josh Lacasse volunteered to help lead a planning charrette in his community of Newmarket. In support of the Town’s ongoing Master Plan update, the team recommended strategies for improving engagement to the town’s historic riverfront. We are proud to contribute to this amazing process, thanks to the leadership of the Town of Newmarket and Plan New Hampshire!

Congratulations to Plan New Hampshire for the important work that you do in NH communities. Placework has been proud to be part of the charette program over many years, including Josh Lacasse in Newmarket last week. We're excited to see what comes of this great work.
Plan NH is excited to announce the completion of our 80th community design charrette, marking a significant milestone in our over three-decade-long mission of partnering with communities across the state to create healthier, more vibrant, and resilient places to live, work, and play! From Belmont in 1996 to Newmarket this past weekend, our dedicated teams of volunteer professionals have worked with 68 communities across the state to help uplift the local community vision, put pen to paper, and bring the vision to life through illustrated recommendations. Thank you to our committee, volunteers, and host communities that have made this program a great success over the years. It’s exciting to see the progress at the Roberts Farm Experiential Learning project for MSAD17, in Norway, Maine. This is our first project to use TimberHP – both blown in and batts in the double stud wall. We’re eager to employ these bio-based materials that are low carbon, non-toxic, and support the New England economy!
