Yesterday morning, we learned that former Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Action Fund President and CEO Cecile Richards passed away after a valiant battle with brain cancer. The world knows Cecile as the incomparable leader of Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of sexual and reproductive health care in this country. She led the national organization from 2006 to 2018, steering us through challenges that transformed the health care landscape and brought Planned Parenthood into the 21st century. In 2013 Cecile was the recipient of Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey (PPMNJ)’s People Who Make a Difference Award, a distinction bestowed to those who have made unprecedented impacts in reproductive health care. “I am honored to have known and worked alongside Cecile. She cared deeply about our cause and was a force to be reckoned with!” said Roslyn Rogers Collins, President and CEO of PPMNJ. Without question, Cecile Richards made Planned Parenthood the force it is today. As the reproductive freedom movement navigates uncharted territory, PPMNJ knows Cecile would tell us the best way to honor her memory is to suit up (in pink!), link arms, and fight like hell for the health and rights of ALL people, no matter what.
