Let’s Grow! With most permits approved, we are deep into construction on on our 3-acre Aquaponics Farm & Training Center in Sobrante Park, East Oakland, CA, with a goal to finish by Fall 2025! Located on the site of the historic Neishi Brothers Flower Nursery and just a few hundred feet from our East Oakland Nursery on 105th, the Aquaponics Farm & Training Center will use eight different systems to grow over 180,000 lbs. of organic produce and nursery starts per year, create 20+ new green jobs, and provide the opportunity for formerly incarcerated and other people from East Oakland to participate in a paid urban agriculture workforce development program including aquaponics farming, nursery management, orchard management, and culinary arts. 🌱 🐟 👩🌾 🧑🍳 🪴 We are on-track to finish construction by Fall 2025. With your support, we can take our model of community healing to new heights and raise the funds to finish construction on the greenhouses and aqua-barn of this transformational aquaponics center. Please consider donating to our Aquaponics Capital Campaign & helping us spread the word! Now more than ever, let’s work together to build the sustainable, resilient, compassionate communities we want to see! https://lnkd.in/gjtKfXSr

Planting Justice is thrilled to be part of the California Regional Initiative for Social Enterprise (CA RISE). In this program, we and 60 other amazing employment social enterprises (ESEs) have received access to $25 million in California state funding and expert-level capacity-building support! 🌟 This means more businesses, more jobs, and more opportunities for Californians facing barriers to employment. Together, we're paving the way for thousands of Californians to access meaningful work, training, and opportunity! 🌱 Many thanks to the office of Gavin Newsom for approving the nation's first statewide investment in ESEs, to the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) for their partnership on this initiative, and to Lendistry for serving as fiscal agent. 🎥 Watch this new video to see how CA RISE is boosting economic mobility across the state! #CARISE #EmploymentSocialEnterprise #CommunityImpact #JobCreation
📽️Watch now!📽️ Leaders and lawmakers from every corner of California convened to celebrate the launch of CA RISE, a first-of-its-kind statewide investment in employment social enterprise (ESEs) — businesses that hire individuals striving to overcome systemic employment barriers. Along with crucial funding, each mission-driven business in the 61-member cohort receives capacity-building support and access to a powerful network of peers to bolster their bottom line and increase their impact. The result? Thousands more Californians will gain access to employment opportunities! 🚀 Check out our new video to learn more about CA RISE and how public-private partnerships are expanding economic inclusion and mobility across California: https://lnkd.in/eANkANXY 🌟 Many thanks to the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom for approving the nation's first statewide investment in ESEs, to the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) for their partnership on this initiative, and to Lendistry for serving as fiscal agent. #CARISE #EmploymentSocialEnterprise #CommunityImpact #JobCreation

Please support CA RISE's very important work! Their programs support Planting Justice's workforce development program at our new Aquaponics Farm & Training Center in Oakland. Let's create more green, healthy opportunities for under-resourced communities!
Programs like California Regional Initiative for Social Enterprise (CA RISE) connect employment social enterprises (ESEs) to essential resources and partners, expanding opportunities for those often overlooked by traditional workforce systems. And when ESEs succeed, they create a ripple effect that benefits communities, opening doors to stability, economic mobility, and possibility! A big thank you to the Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom for approving the nation's first statewide investment in ESEs, the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) for their partnership, and Lendistry for serving as fiscal agent. Together, we're building an economy that works for everyone. #CARISE #EmploymentSocialEnterprise #CommunityImpact #JobCreation

The Oakland-based food-justice and urban-gardening nonprofit aims to provide living-wage jobs for formerly incarcerated people while addressing urban food deserts and training future generations of agriculture workers. "(B)eing surrounded by people impacted by food deserts, incarceration, born into abject poverty and social injustices, when given opportunity to uplift themselves — the resilience is mind-blowing. It’s transforming their lives, the lives of their families," said Samuel Lustig, kitchen and retail manager at Planting Justice.
