Automated Timekeeping Update: Does GenAI Improve this Pain-Point for Busy Lawyers?

There is a lot of timekeeping software out there. And a lot of it claims to be "AI-enabled." But does it actually work as advertised? Our approach was to ask attorneys directly. In 100+ customer interviews, we found that almost no one was actually using these tools because they don’t work the way attorneys need them to. As Rhys Dipshan wrote in his article for Law.com, "Our goal isn’t just to make the task a little bit easier. It’s to actually completely make timekeeping and billing go away as something that attorneys have to do." Thanks Rhys and the team at Law.com for the feature and engaging conversation!

Today we’re thrilled to announce that PointOne has raised a $3.5M seed round, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, General Catalyst, and Y Combinator. Other investors include a Cooley LLP-affiliated investment fund, Soma Capital, Rebel Fund, Ritual Capital, Harvest Venture Partners, Script Capital, Katey Caldwell + Fred Benenson (Twenty Two Ventures), Christopher Golda, Harvest Venture Partners, Orange Collective, Lobster Capital, Kulveer Taggar, Howard Zelbo, David J. Phillips, Benjamin Bryant, Nate Matherson, Richard Aberman, Dr Trishan Panch, Matt Doka, Spencer Penn, Naël El Berkani, Daniel Baum, and more, including several of our customers. When we set out on this journey, our mission was clear: save lawyers time and money by automating the admin tasks they hate most. Over time, this has expanded to supporting firm leaders with high quality data, helping them navigate the shift to AI-enabled legal services. Today, PointOne Time captures data from all the applications attorneys work in—documents, web, emails, calendar events, and more—and uses AI to interpret them and generate complete time entries. PointOne Billing Hub brings bill review into 2024 with real-time collaboration, insights, and an AI assistant that flags and suggests fixes for common billing issues. This capital will enable us to further improve our core time and billing products, as well as expand our suite of capabilities. We’re incredibly grateful to all the firms using PointOne, whose commitment, feedback and collaboration have made the product what it is today. Our mission is to support firms in the transition to AI, by automating the things they don’t want to do and using data to enable more intelligent decision-making. If you’re excited about building that future together, apply to work with us!

Putting together your June bills but noticed that you’re missing time? PointOne can **retroactively** generate time entries based on things you did last month. Our “Retro Capture” mode lets you go back and automatically reconstruct your time—even if you forgot to track it in the moment. One of our customers recently used this to generate over 12 months of time entries for a contingency matter they hadn’t been tracking. To spend less time on June bills, get started here: https://pointone.ai/demo
