WPS Wednesdays: Why does each Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) button need its own pole? Mounting two APS buttons to a single pole doesn’t achieve the MUTCD standard of 10 ft separation between them - plus, it may be in the wrong position for one or both crossings. APS should be positioned close to the curb ramps so visually disabled pedestrians can align themselves with the crosswalk. Worried about the added cost to install a second pole? Rather than trenching through sidewalks to run new wires for a new pole, the Wireless Ped System™ (WPS) mounts on the existing sidewalk and communicates wirelessly with the signal head, allowing quick and affordable APS retrofitting independent of existing power and wires. December marks the shortest month of the year with the least sunlight on Dec. 21, and this WPS Wednesday is a reminder that the Wireless Ped System™ (WPS) solar panel is built to get you through the darkest months. We designed the WPS solar kit to provide reliable power and long battery life in almost any city in North America, even with high activation count in moderate urban shade. The WPS was tested in Manhattan and other major urban areas. This #GivingTuesday, we are proud to support the American Council of the Blind, whose mission “to increase the independence, security, equality of opportunity, and quality of life for all blind and visually impaired people” is close to our hearts. In our effort to design accessible crosswalks for those with visual impairments, it is an honor to contribute to programs and services that promote dignity and independence for people who are blind.

All a traffic engineer wants for Christmas is affordable APS! We’ve got you covered this Black Friday with our brand-new Wireless Ped System™ (WPS). 🎅 Retrofitting an intersection with APS usually requires installing new ped poles – setting new foundations and trenching through existing facilities to run new wires. Using WPS instead of traditional ped poles can save agencies more than the cost of the WPS in labor and equipment savings alone! https://lnkd.in/gHhvQEvz #TrafficSignals #PedestrianSafety #Accessibility #TrafficEngineering
