“A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned”… as the old saying goes. Many companies put most all their focus on sales growth, which is obviously a key to a company’s success, but they put few resources on cost savings and margin improvement. There’s literally “FREE MONEY” just sitting there to be picked up in many CPG supply chains if you just know where and how to look! But why don’t companies put much focus on this? Do they not like their business to make more money? There are a few reasons but, will call out the two majors. -They don’t have the time. Their teams are stretched due to high sales growth, or maybe their supply chain isn’t running smoothly, internally and/or externally, but both result in their whole team focusing on simply trying to keep product on the shelf. -They don’t have the expertise. All CPGs have procurement and purchasing teams, and some on their team have been doing it for many years, or even decades, and they run the RFQs and find “their” best price, but if all they’re doing is running an RFQ, they’re executing on maybe 40-50% of the process maximize cost savings. There are many steps before and after simply doing an RFQ. Are they getting the best packaging costs? Are they using the most efficient packaging and equipment? Do they have the best co-man partners with competitive pricing? Are they paying too much for freight, warehousing, pallets? Do they have the most efficient palletization, which can save on… freight, warehousing, pallets. The pallet business can be a racket… And some people are very good at math, some people are very good at communication, and some people are very good at finding “free money” in supply chains. Does the company have somebody that consistently finds sizeable savings every? I started The Fountainhead Consulting Group not quite two years ago to focus on what I love – find and execute on cost savings for CPG’s and helping them build lasting supplier relationships. I also offer help on launching new products and any supply chain headaches. I would love the opportunity to connect with you about what you have going on and to see if I can help your company to improve their margin. After a short discussion on your products, volumes, spend, wants and needs, and as long as you’re over a certain size, I’ll most likely guarantee that I’ll find you savings or you won’t pay me a penny! You can’t really beat “Free Money” can you? 😊 I’m looking to add a couple clients this year. Wishing everyone a great 2024!
