We are proud of the momentum on the $2 billion 11-project “Restoring the George” repair and rehabilitation program to renew the world’s busiest vehicular bridge. The project to replace every one of the George Washington Bridge’s original steel suspender ropes is more than 95 percent complete, with just two dozen of the 592 ropes left to be replaced. This achievement brings us closer to reopening fully accessible pedestrian and cyclist pathways in 2026, with dedicated lanes and new viewpoints designed to enhance safety and accessibility. “Our $2 billion Restoring the George program to overhaul the George Washington Bridge is essential to its future and continued ability to connect the region,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “For the first time since this 93-year-old bridge was built, we are replacing or upgrading its original major components with modern technology and best-in-class materials. As the stewards of this critical link in our regional transportation network, we are investing billions of dollars and applying top industry engineering expertise to ensure the George Washington Bridge can safely serve the region for another hundred years.” For a closer look at our work, see the latest photos of the bridge’s progress here: https://ow.ly/GANZ50Ujqf8 Link to our full press release here: https://ow.ly/4AFs50Ujqf9 #RestoringTheGeorge #Infrastructure #Milestone #PortAuthority #GeorgeWashingtonBridge #NYC

We're expecting more than 1.3 million travelers at JFK International Airport this week, and record travel + peak redevelopment construction = congested roadways! We urge travelers to avoid driving directly to airport terminals. Take the subway or the train - AirTrain JFK is just 20 minutes from NY Penn, Grand Central, or Atlantic Terminal via the LIRR! If you must drive, use the free Pick-Up and Drop-Off Lot at the Lefferts Blvd AirTrain station. "Not only are we at peak construction, but we are handling record numbers of passengers," said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. "We are working round-the-clock to make sure that getting to and from JFK goes as smoothly as possible. And in less than two years, when the first new terminals open and the new road network is complete, travelers will see that the pain was worth the gain." The project will include a 2.5-mile elevated rail structure, known as the guideway, and three new stations for the new AirTrain system that will align with the ongoing redevelopment of the airport. “Our major airports are the front doors of this region for the rest of the world and ensuring easy, reliable public transit to and from the airport is critical,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “As we embark on the Newark vision plan, a new AirTrain is essential to both meeting increasing volumes at our airports and delivering a world-class passenger experience for Newark Liberty passengers.” Learn more about our plans to reimagine Newark Liberty: https://ow.ly/AT0u50U7qZi #ANewEWR #Aviation #Redevelopment

Improving Accessibility in Public Transit: PATH System’s Proposed 50% Fare Reduction for Riders with Disabilities New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, and the Port Authority have announced a proposal to implement a 50% fare reduction for PATH riders with disabilities—mirroring the fare reduction available to senior riders. If approved, the plan would begin in the summer of 2025 and debut alongside the continued rollout of the TAPP tap-and-go system, aiming to enhance both affordability and ease of access. As Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton expressed, "We are proud to build inclusivity into the PATH system – but we can always do more." This initiative is part of the Port Authority’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and accessibility across the PATH system, including significant investments in the PATH Improvement Plan and PATH Forward program.
