Always a wonderful way to start the holiday season at the Houston Pilots holiday celebration. Pilots work 24-hours/day, 365 days per year, in all weather and port conditions, unless closed for safety, for poor visibility, high winds, and storm warnings. The Greater Houston Port Bureau thanks all the pilots in the Houston Ship Channel region for all your dedicated work keeping our waterways safe. #HolidayCelebration #HoustonShipChannel #Houstonport #ShipPilots #HoustonPilots #maritime #pilots #waterways #marinesafety #navigation #safety

The Brazo Pilots trained today with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston on a MH65 Dolphin helicopter. Every large ship is required to have a pilot on it when traveling in the waterways in Texas. If the Freeport Ship Channel weather has strong currents, high winds, and confined waterways, the pilots cannot board the large vessel from their pilot boat but will be hoisted onto the vessel via helicopter. The pilots are on call 24/7, 365 days a year and regulated by the State of Texas and the U.S. Coast Guard. They have safely navigated vessels in and out of the Freeport Ship Channel since 1960. #BrazoPilotsAssociation, Port Freeport U.S. Coast Guard Greater Houston Port Bureau #BrazoRiver Eric M.
