We develop land and infrastructure in Whitman County to help businesses flourish.
About us
As the leading economic development agency in Whitman County, the Port develops land and infrastructure to help businesses flourish. The Port owns three Snake River ports, Pullman Industrial Park, Port of Whitman Business Air Center and a newly acquired development site in Tekoa, Washington. The Port also operates Boyer Park and Marina, a 140-acre park and marina on the lower Snake River on a long-term lease with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Port operations help support nearly 6,000 jobs annually. For every $1 of local tax levy, an estimated $8.56 are created by the businesses associated with the Port and reinvested into economic development efforts. What might happen to Washington State’s transportation network if we can no longer use barges on the lower Snake River? Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)'s Lower Snake River Dams Transportation Study is beginning to look at how potential dam removal could affect transportation in our region. In July, WSDOT spoke at the Port of Whitman County's economic development meeting to share about the study and recently let us know they have an online open house on the study, available November 15 through December 6. There is an opportunity for public input after reviewing the online material. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g-WH3vDE

Today, the Port of Whitman County Commissioners authorized an earnest money agreement for a property behind Colfax High School as a potential site for a new childcare facility. The Commission’s action comes after several months of community engagement around and analysis of the gaps and needs for childcare in Whitman County. “Consistent with the Port’s mission and our role as Whitman County’s associate development organization, we are learning more, responding to the community’s needs, and determining how best to support this as a workforce and quality-of-life issue," said Port Commission President Tom Kammerzell. "This is yet another example of the Port broadening its efforts across Whitman County.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gDvvFSNq #colfaxwa #childcare
