I had the privilege of speaking with News Central about Nigeria’s 2% budget allocation for agriculture. Countries like Kenya and Ethiopia, prioritizing over 10% as per the Maputo Declaration, have built stronger food systems, attracted investments, and increased exports. Just wrapped up an insightful interview with News Central discussing the Nigerian federal government's 2% budget allocation to agriculture representing more than 100% increase from N362.9 billion in 2024 to N826B in 2025. However, this funding is far too low for a sector that feeds millions and drives our economy. We need smarter investments in post-harvest systems, storage, and value addition to reduce food waste, stabilize prices, and unlock our agro-industrial potential. More investment should go beyond farming this time, we need logistics infrastructure, storage even more cottage agroprocessing capacity to drive our agro-industrial movement—it’s the key to Nigeria’s prosperity.
