"Growth in demand for LNG in Europe will peak in the next two years before flattening out," according to broker and consultant Poten & Partners. At an LNG breakfast briefing in Houston on its 2025 outlook, Poten analysts headed by global head of business intelligence Jason Feer showed European LNG demand growth at just shy of 140 mtpa in 2027 and 2028 before starting to drop. Mexico is leading a push across Latin America to develop the LNG business, according to Sergio Chapa a senior LNG analyst at Poten & Partners. “There's something of a small-scale liquefaction boom going on in Latin America right now,” said Chapa recently during the U.S.-Mexico Natural Gas Forum in San Antonio, TX. “Latin America is a very mountainous, geographically challenging region — it's not like the United States where you can build pipelines across half of the country — and if you want to get natural gas to customers, you've got to liquefy it, put it on trucks, put in ISO containers and get it to your end user.” Natural Gas Intelligence https://hubs.ly/Q02Zd5sn0

“Headwinds include regulatory hurdles, a high-skilled labor shortage, limited natural gas pipeline capacity and in some cases, disinformation on social media,” Sergio Chapa a U.S. LNG analyst at Poten, wrote in a September report. “U.S. regulators with the DOE (Department of Energy) also appear to be becoming wary of re-export projects in Mexico that do not provide domestic jobs or boost energy infrastructure.” Hart Energy https://hubs.ly/Q02Zd7HJ0

“The fact is that Russian natural gas and LNG still account for a significant percentage of European supply (15-20% of gas including pipeline supply and LNG) so like it or not, anyone pulling natural gas from the European pipeline grid is buying Russian gas,” highlights Jason Feer global head of business intelligence at Poten & Partners, a global ship brokerage and business intelligence advisor. Poten and Partners’ Jason Feer global head of business intelligence, told Natural Gas Intelligence that he also expects Cape Horn to be utilized more given the limitations of the Panama Canal. “No matter what changes are made, a lot of U.S. LNG will have to take the long way around because there are not enough slots for LNG to accommodate all of the U.S. volume that will go to Asia, especially as more LNG projects are due to come online in the U.S.,” he said. https://hubs.ly/Q02YnCW00
