Non-commercial club for all sectors of the Scottish poultry industry.

About us

The Poultry Club of Scotland was initiated in 1995. Dennis Surgenor from SEPRA (Scottish Egg Producers and Retailers Association) and Tom Howie from Lainshaw Farm Eggs, Dunlop, were instrumental in getting this event up and running, following the demise of the SEPRA Dance and The Egg Trade Dinner. Our founders Tom and Dennis’s ethos was to have a non-commercial event for all sectors of the poultry industry - a gathering where we could have a good chat and enjoyable night out with like-minded friends. The inaugural dinners were held at The Huntingtower Hotel , Perth organised primarily by Dennis and his wife Muriel. A new venue was to be found due to the growing popularity of the event. It was decided that Dunblane Hydro Hotel was centrally placed and had sufficient accommodation for the occasion. The dinner can now attract as many as 350 guests In addition Tom and Dennis thought it fit to recognise an individual annually for their contribution to the Scottish poultry industry. The Howie/ Surgenor Cup was to be presented. The recipient is always a closely guarded secret which adds to the success of the evening. Later the committee decided as an encouragement to the Next Generation , the Young Person of the Year Award was to be added. The Original 1995 Committee were : Denis Surgenor Tom Howie Robert Thompson Philip Hopley John Hornell John McFarlane Alan Meldrum June Douglas Current Committee: Current Chairman : Matt Balfour, Secretary : Laura Harrison, Chris Baxter, Robert Hay, Kenny Shaw , David Montgomery, Frank Lawson , Alan Thomson , Katy Campbell, Iain Chapman , Andrew Retson, Mike Mclaughlin, Stuart Thomson, Douglas Mclaren and Alan Thomson

Updates

  • The Scottish Poultry Club enjoyed their annual celebratory dinner last night at the Dunblane Hydro, honouring the industry and highlighting the achievements of the nights award winners. Chairman, Matthew Belfour commended Robert Hay for his contribution to the committee, with his retirement from this role this year. Two very worthy winners of the awards this year. Guests celebrated David Montgomerie receiving the prestigious 2024 Howie Surgenor Cup for his outstanding contribution to the Scottish Poultry Industry over a lifetime. Presented by Malcolm Steven, and this year’s Young Person Award, which recognises someone who is committed, dedicated and enthusiastic in their day to day work, went to Paul Alexander from JSR services, presented to him by Jim Panton. Thank you to all sponsors of the night and all the guests attending. We look forward to see you all next year. 17th October 2025.
