Leveraging decades of experience in the aerospace and automotive industries, we introduced electrostatic coating application to the shipping industry just over a year ago. The application provides an increased transfer efficiency compared to airless spraying, resulting in sustainability benefits including significant reductions in overspray and waste. Our 50th order for the application will be for a project on the VLCC SIDR, a 336-meter oil tanker operated by Bahri Ship Management at the Asyad Drydock Company shipyard in Oman, using our PPG NEXEON™ 810 antifouling coating on the hull. “Ship owners and shipyards are looking for innovative solutions to comply with stricter environmental regulations and meet their sustainability goals – these include low-friction hull coatings that reduce vessel greenhouse gas emissions and provide sustainably advantaged application procedures,” said Visser Sijmen, our sales director, EMEA, Protective and Marine Coatings. “Electrostatic application is quickly being adopted by large shipping companies and by shipyards in Europe, Singapore and China.” #PPGproud #ProtectandBeautify #Sustainability

We have completed the sale of our silicas products business to QEMETICA, a Warsaw, Poland-based, privately held manufacturer of soda ash, silicates and other specialty chemicals. “We are pleased to complete this transaction with Qemetica, and I want to thank the silicas products business employees for their dedication and commitment to the business and to PPG customers throughout the years,” said Tim Knavish, our chairman and chief executive officer. The transaction, which is the result of our evaluation of strategic alternatives for the business announced on Jan. 9, includes our precipitated silicas manufacturing facilities in Lake Charles, La., and Delfzijl, The Netherlands. In addition, QEMETICA will lease silicas manufacturing and research and development operations at PPG sites in Barberton, Ohio, and Monroeville, Pa., respectively.

We have renewed our partnership with STEM TALENT GIRL, an educational initiative that empowers young women in Spain to explore careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). “By supporting the STEM Talent Girl program, PPG is helping to break down barriers for young women in STEM and building a pipeline of diverse talent for the future,” said Nuria Martinez, our plant manager, Valencia. “It also emphasizes employee engagement, with PPG women participating as mentors to guide students and share their own experiences in STEM careers.” We are #PPGproud to have supported the program, which is available in 15 cities across Spain, for more than five years. #ProtectandBeautify #STEM

Today, we're celebrating America Recycles Day. Every year on Nov. 15, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reminds the nation about its goal to increase the U.S. recycling rate from 32% to 50% by 2030. At PPG, we also have our own goal to drive to 100% process waste to reuse, recycle and recovery. To show our support of this holiday, we're proud to partner with Can Manufacturers Institute, Recycling is like Magic! and the Mon-Valley Recycling Center near our hometown headquarters community to help elementary school students at Environmental Charter School collect and recycle as many cans as possible through the end of April.
