Congratulations to our team at LG&E and KU Energy LLC on the official groundbreaking of Mill Creek 5, a 640-megwatt natural gas combined-cycle generating unit expected to begin powering customers’ homes and businesses in 2027. “This is an exciting milestone for our company,” said LG&E and KU President John Crockett. “Executing on our generation investment plan, building Mill Creek 5 and adding more solar and battery storage, ensures we have the right mix of power generation that’s flexible and balanced to support a sustainable energy grid and allow us to transition Kentucky’s energy future safely and reliably.”
Today, we broke ground on our new state-of-the art 640-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle generating unit at our Mill Creek Generating Station. Mill Creek 5 will be our most efficient and advanced generating unit, producing electricity through both a gas turbine and a steam turbine, which utilizes steam generated from the exhaust heat in the gas combustion process. Construction is now underway on Mill Creek 5 and will begin powering customer’s homes and businesses in 2027.

Josue Aviles has always been fascinated with learning more about how things work. He brings that passion and curiosity to his role as a substation engineer with PPL Electric Utilities. “My team works on the design of the substations, making sure our equipment is up to code, and providing input on retirement and replacement of equipment to ensure reliability,” said Aviles. “Each day when I come to work, there’s always an opportunity to learn more about different areas of the company and how our teams work together to accomplish our goals.” While Josue takes great pride in the amazing work that his team does, he also sees a connection to the customers we serve. “It’s important to learn about what is impacting our communities so we can be part of the solution and improve their lives.” Read the full article here: http://spr.ly/6041q3mi1

This past week, our teams in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island participated in our Annual Family Day of Caring. Roughly 60 PPL Corporation and PPL Electric Utilities employees and family members came out to get their hands dirty planting 3,000 wildflower plugs as we partnered with Wildlands Conservancy PA at Louise Moore Park. In the Ocean State, 40 Rhode Island Energy employees came out with their families for our first Family Day of Caring at Sabin Point Park in East Providence. We picked up trash, removed weeds and planted mums to help beautify the beach, playground and park areas. Our team members are proud to take part in special days where we can support our communities in meaningful ways. #FamilyDayOfCaring #PPLCares #EmpoweringCommunities
