Let's Open the Discussion!🚨 Today, many businesses require workers to put in ten hours a day, which frequently violates Indian labor rules such as the Shops and Establishments Act and the Factories Act of 1948. 8 hours a day, excluding breaks, and up to 9 hours a day with breaks are the daily working hours. Weekly Hours: 48 hours at most. ✅ Overtime: Any hours exceeding these are considered overtime and are compensated at double the standard rate. ✅ Exceptions: Extended work hours are permitted only under certain circumstances and in exchange for appropriate pay. However, the issue is this: ❓ Are employees treated fairly by this practice? ❓ What effects does it have on work-life balance and well-being? ❓ How do we make sure businesses reach productivity targets and adhere to the law? 💡 To all professionals, leaders, and specialists in the field: How do you feel about this? Should we look for more effective ways to strike a balance between employee rights and work hours, or is this an acceptable practice? Talk about your ideas and observations. Honoring Legends, Upholding the Rights They Fought For: A Call for Fairness in Our Workplaces: The Respected Lala Lajpat Rai played a pivotal role in introducing the 8-hour workday in India, leading to the Factories Act, 1948, and the Shops and Establishments Act, which set an 8-hour daily limit and a 48-hour weekly cap. These laws were meant to protect workers from exploitation and ensure fair wages and safe conditions. Yet, many companies still enforce 10-hour shifts, bypassing these protections. This disregard for labor laws undermines the hard-earned rights of workers and the ethical labor standards championed by The Honorable Ratan Tata. Mr. Ratan Tata has long been a champion of workers' rights and welfare. Under his leadership, the Tata Group set industry standards for fair wages, healthcare, and safety — well ahead of the curve. He also played a key role in resolving labor disputes, fostering strong management-employee relations, and demonstrating that prioritizing worker well-being is essential for long-term business success. The Revered George Bernard Shaw said, “Take care to get what you like or you will be forced to like what you get.”Workers deserve fair treatment. As The Respected Richard Branson put it, “Take care of your employees, and they will take care of your customers.” When workers’ rights are respected, the whole organization thrives.
