Protocol was a media company founded in 2020 to explore how the tech industry works, and how it’s changing the world. We focused on the people, power and politics of tech, with no agenda and just one goal: to arm decision-makers in tech, business and public policy with the unbiased, fact-based news and analysis they need to navigate a world in rapid change. Protocol was a part of Axel Springer, with journalists in San Francisco, New York, Washington, DC, London and beyond. Our audience included some of the most powerful CEOs in tech, the regulators who seek to curb their influence, and those in Silicon Valley and beyond whose businesses are changing faster than ever by the blistering pace of innovation.

    It’s 1,031 days since we hit “send” on the first ever edition of Protocol Source Code. Today, we’ve hit that same button for the final time. We launched Protocol in February 2020 to cover the evolving power center of tech. It is with deep sadness that we are winding down the publication. We thank all of our readers and partners who joined us along the way For our final edition, the Protocol team nominated our favorite stories from the past three years.
