About us
Every day, 119,000 compassionate caregivers serve patients and communities through Providence St. Joseph Health, a national, Catholic, not-for-profit health system, driven by a belief that health is a human right. Rooted in the founding missions of the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, courageous women ahead of their time who brought health care and other social services to the American West when it was still a rugged, untamed frontier, we share a singular commitment to improve the health of all. From our earliest days, we’ve met new challenges by pioneering new solutions. Today, with 51 hospitals, 829 clinics and a comprehensive range of services, we strive to meet the needs of communities across Alaska, California, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Washington through a diverse family of Catholic, other faith-based and mission-driven secular organizations. Now, as we face a new frontier—a changing health care landscape—we draw upon their pioneering and compassionate spirit to plan for the next century of health for a better world, especially for the poor and vulnerable. Providence Alaska Medical Center will soon be the first in Alaska to begin offering a breakthrough cancer treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. Innovative treatments like this help us to deliver world-class patient care. ⬇️ Learn more ⬇️
Providence Alaska Medical Center will soon be the first in Alaska to begin offering an #innovative, breakthrough cancer treatment for metastatic prostate #cancer. #Pluvicto is a targeted therapy that identifies and kills cells that express Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA+), a protein found in #prostate cancer cells. In contrast to traditional radiation or chemotherapy — which don’t have the ability to differentiate between healthy and cancerous cells — Pluvicto uses pinpoint #precision to specifically target PSMA+ antibodies. Once it's introduced into the bloodstream, it has the capability to locate and #eliminate prostate cancer cells throughout the body. Pluvicto’s radioisotope attaches to these cancer cells and is absorbed, releasing radiation that destroys them. The treatment is scheduled to begin at Providence Cancer Center in March.

It’s a virtual care system built on a foundation of teamwork, trust and collaboration. “A lot of critical care is knowing when to act and when not to act. Having experienced ICU nurses and doctors can orient the care team with a very systematic approach.” -Chris Dale, M.D., Medical Director of Clinical Innovation at Providence TeleCritical Care Providence patients who receive TeleCritical Care tend to spend fewer days in the ICU, are more likely to survive and are less likely to be transferred to a hospital outside their community. We're dedicated to advancing our vision of #HealthforaBetterWorld. Advocating for the poor and vulnerable is essential. Last week, President and CEO, Erik Wexler, joined our advocacy team in Washington, D.C. where they met with senators and representatives from both parties to discuss important health issues affecting the communities we serve. ⬇️ Learn more. ⬇️
𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 With a new presidential administration and Congress in place, the future of health care is at a critical juncture. Our advocacy team and I recently spent a week in Washington, D.C. meeting with senators and representatives from both parties. One area that is especially of concern is the potential for significant reductions to Medicare and Medicaid – the safety-net for Americans. Many people aren’t aware that Medicaid provides vital health care services to parents, children, veterans, people with disabilities and others. It is the largest single payer of maternity care covering nearly half of all births across the country. Millions of Americans depend on Medicaid for health care coverage, and it’s a vital lifeline for our patients, especially in rural communities. I also discussed ways the government can help reduce administrative burdens for physicians and improve the patient experience while lowering overall health care costs. One big issue is underpayments and denials from commercial insurers, which have increased 73 percent year over year across Providence. Providence encourages lawmakers to support prior authorization legislation and reconfigure prompt pay policies for Medicare Advantage that would allow providers to get paid in a timely manner while easing the patient’s health care journey. Overall, I’m deeply appreciative of the focus many legislators have on supporting caregivers and patients. In the months ahead, we must all be vocal and passionate advocates for health care. Providence will remain steadfast in our Mission of serving all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. #healthcare #hospitals #healthsystems

As women in the workforce, we juggle many responsibilities and challenges – balancing professional ambitions with personal commitments. Let's commit to nurturing our health and wellness, allowing ourselves the space to recharge and thrive. When we prioritize our well-being, we set a powerful example for our teams, demonstrating that self-care is integral to sustainable success. I recently sat down with long-time journalist Patti Payne to discuss how women in the workforce can put their health first. We also touch on my journey in health care, my time at Swedish, and the trials and benefits women face in leadership roles. 🎧Listen to the conversation: https://lnkd.in/g9SzryhU ▶️Tune in to more episodes of A Healthier Future: https://lnkd.in/gvZNmYq9 #women #leadership #health #wellbeing
