A Federal agency dedicated to promoting pretrial justice and enhancing community safety in the District of Columbia

About us

A Leader in the D.C. Criminal Justice Community! The Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia (PSA) is an independent entity within the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency. PSA is a Federal agency that assists judicial officers in both the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by conducting a risk assessment for every arrested person who will be presented in court, identifying detention eligibility and formulating release recommendations, as appropriate, based upon the arrestee's demographic information, criminal history, and substance use and/or mental health information. For defendants who are placed on conditional release pending trial, PSA provides supervision and treatment services that reasonably assure that they return to court and do not engage in criminal activity pending their trial and/or sentencing. PSA's vision is to thrive as a leader within the justice system through a diverse, inclusive and empowered workforce that embodies integrity, excellence, accountability, and innovation in the delivery of the highest quality services.
