PHMC is saddened to share the passing of our founder, John (Jack) C. McMeekin. “Through his work with PHMC, Independence Blue Cross, Crozer Health and countless non-profit boards and civic organizations, Jack dedicated his career to community health,” said Michael K. Pearson, president and CEO at PHMC. "He leaves an indelible mark on the Philadelphia community and will be greatly missed.” Jack founded PHMC in 1972 with the mission of building healthy communities through public health. Under his early leadership and pioneering vision, what began as a startup thought to be a several-year, federally funded community health experiment has grown into one of the country’s leading nonprofit providers of public health resources, research and direct services. PHMC is honored to have Jack’s legacy continue at PHMC through the work of his son, John C. McMeekin II, who serves as secretary on the PHMC Board of Directors.
