The Curiosity Clinic, a joint program between Purdue Nursing and Purdue University Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS), gives students experience interacting with healthy children and teaches students how to adapt health education topics to the pediatric population. “This is an opportunity in their senior year to be able to interact and do something really applicable and hands-on, and the interprofessional collaboration is huge,” explained Windi Krok, clinical professor in SLHS. #PurdueHHS #PurdueUniversity #nursing #SpeechPathology

Some Indiana lawmakers want to expand pre-K access to all children throughout the state. David Purpura, professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science and director of the Center for Early Learning, said pre-K has long-term benefits for children. However, Indiana’s early learning programs can only serve about 61% of children who are eligible. “Indiana is one of the few states that doesn’t have a fully state-funded early childhood education program without significant restrictions,” Purpura said. #PurdueHHS #PurdueUniversity #EarlyChildhoodEducation #PreK #Education

Allie Reimold, a 2016 Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences alumna, recently made headlines of a CNN story after she was unexpectedly reunited in a Houston airport with United Airlines Capt. David Whitson whose life she saved with her bone marrow donation. As an 18-year-old brain and behavioral sciences undergrad, she had helped organize the Purdue University Dance Marathon. During the event, she’d swabbed her cheek to join the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Four years later, she was matched with Whitson who had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia — a rare, fast-growing blood and bone marrow cancer originating from abnormal blood stem cells. #PurdueHHS #PurdueUniversity #PurdueAlumni #Donor #Marrow
