Zachary Neumann’s professional journey showcases the power behind adaptability, persistence, and a willingness to embrace unexpected opportunities. Starting with an academic foundation in zoology and Environmental Science, Zachary’s path took a significant turn when his professors emphasized the growing importance of GIS and Python programming. This realization became a turning point, opening doors to Zachary’s first role with the Forest Service. Over time, he advanced into a high-level consulting position, supporting the entire agency, which ultimately led him to his current role as a Senior GIS Analyst at QK. Zachary's career is marked by its diversity. Before stepping into his current field, he gained valuable retail experience at REI and in various service industry roles. These experiences, while seemingly unrelated, provided him with unique insights into leadership and customer service, skills that continue to shape his professional approach today. Zachary’s leadership philosophy is centered on the idea of service. For him, true leadership involves helping others succeed, whether by offering guidance, support, or inspiration. This principle influences his daily work and is a cornerstone of his professional ethos. For Zachary, his current position is a milestone that reflects years of dedication and hard work. It’s a reminder that success often follows when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone, challenge yourself, and pursue new opportunities. One of the most demanding periods in Zachary’s life involved balancing a full-time job and an internship while commuting an hour to campus to complete his education. This experience tested his limits and taught him invaluable lessons in persistence and time management—skills he carries with him to this day. When asked about career advice, Zachary emphasizes the importance of networking. “It’s not about what you know; it’s about who you know,” he says, reflecting on how relationships have played a pivotal role in his career growth. Beyond networking, he encourages others to take an active role in their job search. Rather than waiting for opportunities to come to you, he suggests reaching out directly to hiring managers and aligning your actions with your long-term vision. Zachary advises identifying your dream job, outlining the skills and experience required, and finding ways to build those skills—even if it means creating opportunities in your current role. Most importantly, he highlights the value of standing out by consistently going above and beyond. Zachary Neumann’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous growth. As a Senior GIS Analyst at QK, he exemplifies embracing challenges, pursuing excellence, and leading with purpose. We’re proud to have Zachary on the QK team, driving innovation and progress every day. #WeAreQK #StaffSpotlight

We are deeply honored to share that the Woodlake Storm Drain Pipeline Project has been recognized as Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in the Small Cities/Rural Communities Environment category! This prestigious award reflects the collaborative efforts and dedication that went into creating a lasting solution for the City of Woodlake. The Woodlake Storm Drain Pipeline Project is a key milestone in the City’s broader infrastructure improvement plan, designed to enhance flood protection and manage stormwater runoff. With limited underground stormwater systems previously in place, this project has significantly bolstered Woodlake’s ability to handle heavy rain events, diverting water from flood-prone surface areas into underground pipelines. By efficiently managing stormwater, the system reduces the risk of localized flooding that once posed challenges to the community. Beyond addressing immediate needs, this project sets the stage for a sustainable future. The expanded pipeline will eventually connect to Woodlake’s first regional recharge basin, an initiative that will replenish local groundwater supplies during storm events—delivering long-term benefits for both flood control and water conservation. We are incredibly grateful to the City of Woodlake, our project partners, and everyone who contributed to this endeavor. This award underscores the impact of teamwork, innovation, and a shared commitment to protecting communities and enhancing resilience. Thank you to the APWA for this recognition—it inspires us to continue creating meaningful, community-centered solutions.

Jerry Kling has been a vital part of our team’s journey. Over the decades, Jerry has set an inspiring example for everyone around him. He began his career when he heard from a classmate that C.J. McKee was looking for someone to join a survey crew. With no prior experience but a love for math and a strong work ethic, he took a leap into the world of surveying—and the rest is history. Before starting in surveying, Jerry’s resume was as diverse as his talents, with jobs ranging from grocery store work to securing cargo on ships in the Bay Area. Once he found his footing, Jerry discovered a deep passion for the field, especially the thrill of uncovering long-hidden section corners, sometimes untouched for decades. As technology evolved, Jerry embraced it with enthusiasm, mastering AutoCAD during its early years and diving into subdivision design. He recalls how exciting it was to see projects come to life on screen, and he takes particular pride in contributing to designs for projects like the Target Center and Keller Motors in Hanford. Beyond the office, Jerry finds joy in restoring antique farm machinery and raising beef show cattle with his grandchildren. His passion for these pursuits reflects his love of detail and dedication—qualities that have defined his professional life as well. Jerry credits mentors like C.J. McKee and John Zumwalt for shaping his career and teaching him the intricacies of surveying, design work, and title reports. Now, as a project administrator, Jerry aims to be the go-to research expert in the office, always ready to assist his teammates with the vast knowledge he’s accumulated. His commitment to being a reliable resource exemplifies QK’s core value of dependability. Jerry’s colleagues know they can count on him not only for his expertise but also for his unwavering dedication to the team and its success. When asked about his favorite part of QK’s culture, Jerry highlights the collaboration and camaraderie among colleagues, emphasizing that true leadership involves working together to ensure everyone understands the vision of a project. Jerry’s advice to newcomers is simple but powerful: “Pay attention to details. This is a detail-oriented business!” Even after decades of dedication, his enthusiasm for his work remains unwavering. He says, “I still enjoy coming to work after all these years.” Jerry, your dedication, wisdom, and reliability inspire us all. Thank you for being a cornerstone of the QK family! #WeAreQK #SixDecadesOfDependability #StaffSpotlight

The project brought him positive feedback and invaluable experience that has helped shape his career. He’s particularly drawn to the challenges that help him grow—not only as a professional but as a person. Outside of work, Sergio is a man of many passions. He’s currently captivated by design and 3D printing and loves traveling with his wife and family. His biggest inspiration? His family. Hearing his parents express pride in his achievements reassures Sergio that their sacrifices were worth it and continues to drive him forward. When it comes to our company culture, Sergio values the people and the atmosphere most. He says, “Everyone is super nice and definitely makes the office environment fun and exciting.” Looking ahead, he’s eager to grow professionally, with the ultimate goal of earning his PE license. Sergio’s advice for anyone starting out in civil engineering? “Throw yourself into situations that will test your knowledge and abilities. The process may feel daunting and difficult, but once you overcome those challenges, everything becomes easier.” We’re proud to have Sergio as part of the team and excited to see all he accomplishes in the future! #WeAreQK #Growth #NextGenerationOfEngineers
