Quake verwelkomt Toon Possemiers, directeur van abt be en CSO voor Oosterhoff, als nieuwe directeur van Quake. Hij zal leiding geven aan Quake Sports en Sustainability, naast Rudi Roijakkers. De aanstelling van Toon betekent dat er bij Quake nog meer nadruk komt te liggen op duurzaamheid. “Het is duidelijk dat een versnelling nodig is op het vlak van verduurzaming in de bouwsector,” zegt hij. “Met de huidige kennis en concepten wordt het echter steeds lastiger om grote sprongen te maken. We zullen dus op een andere manier moeten kijken naar onze opdrachten en opdrachtgevers meenemen in ambitieuzere en dikwijls innovatievere scenario’s.” Rudi sluit zich daarbij aan: “We hebben een hele grote opgave op het gebied van duurzaamheid die we samen op moeten pakken. Eén van de acties die we daar uitrollen is het werk aan een omvangrijke materialendatabase op het gebied van duurzaamheid. Het gebruik van deze kennis kan een grote reductie geven in de carbon footprint van onze gebouwen.” Naast de duurzame innovaties heeft Quake een belangrijke functie in het delen van kennis tussen alle werkmaatschappijen en externen. “En we zijn een plek waar collega’s uit verschillende werkmaatschappijen samenkomen en samenwerken. Hiermee zetten we ook stappen om meer verbondenheid te krijgen binnen Oosterhoff,” zegt Rudi. Toon vult aan: “Persoonlijk hoop ik op een (nog) grotere betrokkenheid van alle collega’s van Oosterhoff. Iedereen heeft wel eens een idee dat verder onderzocht kan worden en zo misschien kan uitgroeien tot een nieuwe dienst of zelfs een nieuwe werkmaatschappij. Die ideeën moeten we zo goed mogelijk verzamelen en aftoetsen. Daar ligt dus een belangrijke rol voor ons. We moeten trachten alle collega’s warm te maken voor innovatie. Last November 7, the Quake team (Oosterhoff/ABT bv) won the audience award of the Doe&Durf challenge of NLingenieurs, with “The Energy Challenge”. The Energy Challenge is a serious game for and by engineers, designed to provide insight into technical solutions that tackle the congestion of the electricity grid. However: the needs and preferences of the customer must also be taken into account. In the game, you take on the role of an energy consumer, distributor or supervisor, each with their own interests and areas of expertise. The shared goal is to keep the energy network operational, while dealing with unpredictable changes, distribution limits and extremely fast price changes. The team consists of Ann Eapen, Thomas Bollen, Yara Ibrahim and Sarvin Sarabi Daryani. With support from Eric Willems, Vincent van Helvoort, Christa Drolenga and Jaap Wiedenhoff.

As Oosterhoff innovation think tank, Quake is participating in the Doe&Durf competition this year, and we can’t wait to tackle this year’s challenge!   As this competition challenges young engineers in the Netherlands to develop creative and innovatie solutions to societal challenges, JongOosterhoff has found four motivated team members. Hoe kunnen we nog betere keuzes maken op het gebied van duurzaamheid? Als abtWassenaar weten wij voor onze constructies in iedere fase en op elk moment de materiaal gebonden emissies (embodied carbon) van onze adviezen te berekenen. Dit kunnen we op verschillende detailniveaus: van een grove inschatting tot en met ontwerpen met verschillende mengsels en wapeningshoeveelheden. Gisteren hebben we een heel succesvolle milieu-impact hackathon gehad onder leiding van Harmen Gietema en met hulp van Jornt Bieze (Adviesbureau Lüning). We hebben met alle constructiecollega’s een heel aantal bestaande en lopende projecten doorgerekend voor onze eigen analyses. We gebruiken hiervoor eigen tools van Quake, de denktank van Oosterhoff. Zo leren we hoe wij staan ten opzichte van de Paris Proof doelstellingen en hoe we nog beter kunnen adviseren. Benieuwd naar onze inzichten en adviezen? What is the impact of installations on the embodied carbon of materials? How can we approach Paris Proof buildings from installations perspective? At an innovation day of Quake, colleagues from all Oosterhoff operating companies came together to bring together their insights.   Although environmental data for installations is still limited, there are already some insights into the impact of system and material choices based on the available EPDs and common sense. The biggest difference can be achieved through a sharp program of requirements and early consultation with an integrated view at building level to smartly integrate the climate concept. The performance of installations with regard to energy performance, health and maintenance will always remain central. We will further elaborate this and soon share our first insights in more detail!
