The radiologist shortage is being felt across the U.S. and at the Tadiological Society of North America (RSNA) 1024 this week it was very evident. The number of health system recruiters has doubled from 2019 numbers to about 60. The recruiters row aisle in the past pre-pandemic was a place for attendees to collect pens and was usually very open with only a trickle of visitors. Last year and again this year it was full of people each time we stopped by and many we’re having conversations at the booths, as the photos here show. Radiology Buisness spoke with several of these recruiters and found rural areas are hardest to get radiologists to, with some positions having been open for more than a year. On rural Mississippi practice recently made an offer to a breast imager in the class of 2027 because she is local and they want to keep her in the community. There were 53 recruiters in the recruiters row area of the floor, but another 10 were spread out across both show floors because they said that was the only spot they could vet because they were first time exhibitors, or they registered too late to be grouped with the other recruiters. Several Recruiters said they are offering packages that allow a better work/life balance, ability to remote work or work a hybrid schedule, and higher pay than just a couple years ago. Even larger heath systems were looking to recruit more radiologists as demand exceeds their current radiologists available. Additionally, #RSNA was shooting professional photos for attendees to use on resumes, LinkedIn and websites, and the booth was packed with people waiting in line. It is clear that radiologists are in the driver seat when looking for new job opportunities. #RSNA
