If you’ve been following #battery #technology news, you’ve obviously come across these images. A Singapore 🇸🇬 based company, Flint, is pioneering cutting edge technology for paper batteries, how cool is that? According to Sujita Sinha, Flint’s paper batteries are quasi-solid batteries that utilize an innovative hydrogel ring that acts as both a separator and an electrolyte within a piece of paper. This setup differentiates it from conventional lithium-ion batteries by replacing toxic and geopolitically sensitive materials like #lithium, #cobalt, and #nickel, with safe and sustainable alternatives such as zinc and #manganese. Nevada Gold Mines, an asset operated by Barrick recently completed a 200MW #solar power plant, a facility that’ll provide north of 17% of annual power #demand for the #gold mining giant. This #investment underscores the company’s commitment to reducing #greenhouse gas emissions from its operations, the solar power plant will help reduce annual #carbon emissions by at least 234kt. Huge milestone.

Where others see risk, China sees opportunity: Ganfeng Lithium, China’s largest #lithium producer, announced the launch of the first phase of its Goulamina lithium mine in #Mali, West Africa. Despite what other investors are calling “tension in Mali”, the Chinese firm secured a $342.7 million deal to increase its stake in this major lithium #project from the initial 40% stake in Mali Lithium, bought from Australia’s Leo Lithium, initial owners of Mali Lithium. Production output is projected to be around 506,000 tons annually in phase one and expected to hit 1 million tons in phase two of the project. Mali earlier revised its #mining code and this project will see them owning 35% (consolidated) in the project. 🔋

Our drive towards adoption of #clean energy #technologies has over the years created a lot of jobs across #manufacturing, #processing, #mining to mention but a few. Research actually indicates that clean energy jobs are likely to keep growing with a staggering 1.3 million #jobs expected to be created by 2030. Questions that remain unanswered however are, where will the #industry find people to fill these roles? What can we do now to start developing a pipeline of labor to fill these jobs? How can companies work with communities to drive the hype around clean energy jobs and develop programs that will tap into high school students and prepare them to take up these roles? 1/3/2024: Exciting week for the mining community in the USA 🇺🇸 following Perpetua Resources’ award of a mining license 🪪 for their Idaho #antimony and #gold mine. Given the recent antimony export ban by #China, this is a good step in building a local supply chain ⛓️💥of critical minerals. It’s reported that once the mine comes online in 2028, it’ll be able to supply more than 35% of America's annual antimony needs and produce 450,000 ounces of gold each year. Huge step! 🔋
