An international non-profit organization working to create a better future for people and nature

About us

The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization working in more than 60 countries at the intersection of business, agriculture, and forests. We are building an alliance to create a better future for people and nature by making responsible business the new normal. By bringing diverse allies together we are making deep-rooted change on some of our most pressing social and environmental issues. Together, we amplify the voices of farmers and forest communities, improve livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and help people mitigate and adapt to climate change in bold and effective ways. Join our alliance. Our alliance is all about changing the way the world produces, sources and consumes. Every company has the power to help build a better future by sourcing commodities responsibly and adapting its business model to become more sustainable. By joining us, you are helping meet the increase in demand for responsibly made products. And when the demand is there, farmers and foresters work hard to meet it, helping drive real, meaningful impact. Everyone wins when we bring the right people together. The Rainforest Alliance has recently merged with UTZ, a Netherlands-based program and label for sustainable farming worldwide. We all have that little voice saying, “one person alone can’t possibly make a difference." But the fact is, there are millions of us ready to tackle the challenges we face with hope and optimism. If you’re with us—and if you’re all in, too—together we can create a better future. Pessimism is Out. We're All In. Consumer demand for sustainable products is booming, offering farmers new market opportunities through certifications like the Rainforest Alliance’s. However, small-scale farmers in Indonesia face hurdles, including certification costs, lack of local bodies, and extensive paperwork. To address these challenges, we’re training small-scale cocoa farmers in sustainable practices in the North Luwu landscape of Indonesia, and connecting them to global supply chains. So far, 1,928 farmers—25% of them women—have received training, and this is just the beginning! 💪 To take a deeper dive into this impactful project, click here! 👉 https://bit.ly/3AHkl8a 📸 Photo credit: Dwi Person, Aryo Condro #RainforestAlliance #Landscapes #NorthLuwu #Indonesia #Cocoa #PalmOil #Sustainability #SupplyChains

Earlier this month, our team in Mexico successfully held a Rainforest Alliance Standard Roadshow in Jalisco! The two-day event brought together around 80 stakeholders from across the agro-industry, creating a vibrant space for innovation, collaboration, and real-world impact in Mexican agriculture. 🌱 With the support of APEAM, A.C., APEAJAL, Aneberries, #CDAAJ Jalisco, and Driscoll's LATAM, we tackled key themes—from water conservation to biodiversity—exploring how the Rainforest Alliance Standard can drive sustainability and open new doors to international markets. 🌎 As Wendele van der Wiele, Counselor for Agriculture and Nature to Mexico and Cuba at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Mexico-City, emphasized, achieving sustainable agriculture requires collective action and commitment across local communities and value chains. Armando García, Director of Sustainability at Grupo los Cerritos, echoed this sentiment: "When we come together at the landscape level, we can achieve so much more than working individually. Our goal to reduce the environmental footprint through sustainable production is stronger when it’s collective." 🤝 A huge thank you to all panelists, speakers, and attendees who made this gathering so powerful and inspiring, and to Holland House Mexico for its great organization. The insights shared and connections made are just the beginning of our continued journey toward a sustainable future! 🐸 #RainforestAlliance #WeAreAllIn #Sustainability #Landscapes #Agriculture #Mexico #Biodiversity

In Phu Tho Province, Vietnam, Mrs. Chu Huong Thuy is leading the way in sustainable agriculture, showing how gender equality and social inclusion can drive both environmental and economic gains. 🌱 With support from Phu Da Tea Enterprise and the Rainforest Alliance’s #IntegratedWeedManagement program, she transformed her 24-hectare tea field by reducing pesticide use and selectively managing weeds. 🌾 The impact? 👉 Better yields, healthier soil, and annual cost savings of over 160 million VND (approximately $6,300 USD)! Mrs. Thuy’s journey highlights the transformative impact of women-led decision-making in agriculture. By embracing sustainable practices, she’s paving the way for a future where agriculture benefits both communities and the environment. 💚 The design and implementation of this project have been accomplished thanks to the collaborative effort between the Rainforest Alliance and Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP)—funded by UK International Development from the UK government. 🤝 #RainforestAlliance #SustainableAgriculture #InclusiveFarming #Vietnam #TeaSector #Sustainability #GenderEquality

From the heart of #COP29, the Rainforest Alliance delegation has been driving conversations on the role of locally led, nature-based solutions and the importance of financing them at scale. 🌱 Here are the highlights:   🧑🌾 At our official side event, “Empowering Farmers: Access to Finance and Innovation for Climate Adaptation and Resilience”—in partnership with World Farmers' Organisation and the U.S. Dairy Export Council—our Senior Manager of Public Affairs and Advocacy, Duncan Williamson, discussed the importance of certification schemes and their role in supporting farmers to implement climate-smart agriculture practices at scale.   🌳 Our Climate Director, Celia A. Harvey, joined an event hosted by the World Climate Foundation titled “Protecting Forests, Preserving Climate – Strategies for Sustainable Land use and Forest Conservation.” In this session, Celia spoke about the importance of supporting local farming and forest communities to implement nature-based solutions, and how local communities at the forefront of climate change must be invested in and supported to effectively deliver impact at scale.    🌿 Celia also joined the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the High-Level Climate Champions, and the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action - Land Use Action Group for the “Transforming Land and ecosystems for a Nature-positive 2030” event. She emphasized the need for increased financing for farmers and forest communities to adopt better land management practices, the critical role of governments in creating supportive policy environments for nature-based solutions, and the importance of diverse, inclusive coalitions collaborating to champion these initiatives. The message is clear: Increasing financing for nature-based solutions is essential for effective climate adaptation and mitigation. Now is the time for all players—from governments and companies to NGOs and communities—to join forces and implement these solutions at the speed and scale our planet needs. 🌍 #RainforestAlliance #COP #Climate #ClimateAction #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateFinance #Sustainability #Agriculture

On #WorldChildrensDay, we're inspired by the Indigenous women who are preserving and nurturing their Kichwa cultural identity between generations in Peru. 🤲🌱 A collective of Kichwa women from five local communities formed Warmi Awadora, a brand of textiles woven from cotton cultivated in harmony with their forests. Their vibrant creations—bracelets, earrings, bags, and more—are not only beautiful, but also support their families and preserve ancestral knowledge. 🧠 Fifteen young girls participated in "Weaving Knowledge" workshops, or "Tejiendo Saberes" in Spanish, in which older members of Warmi Awadora taught them ancestral techniques and Indigenous symbolism that their textile creations represent. 🌿 The Rainforest Alliance partners with these women to build their entrepreneurial skills, helping to boost incomes and support economic growth, while preserving their cultural identity and passing it on to future generations. 💚 Click on the link (in Spanish) to learn more about this powerful legacy 👉 https://lnkd.in/grfeWCcK #RainforestAlliance #IndigenousCommunity #Kichwa #Textiles #SanMartin #ChildrensDay #IndigenousYouth #CulturalHeritage
