Species–Climate–People. We protect rainforests to save species, store carbon and support local & Indigenous communities.

About us

For more than 35 years, Rainforest Trust has not wavered from its mission of preventing deforestation, preserving critical habitat and safeguarding endangered species. We have projects in rainforests, but we also protect other types of forests and even marine environments! Stopping deforestation does not just save trees. The results include clean water, oxygen production, carbon sequestration and storage, and the slowing of climate change. Saving tropical forests helps mitigate many of the critical issues we are facing today and in the near future. By becoming a part of Rainforest Trust, you become part of the solution. Businesses that leverage their corporate resources enable Rainforest Trust to achieve its mission. We are all in this together, working hard to ensure a future for all species, including our own.

With the privilege of actively engaging with local communities, we reaffirm that true conservation can only be achieved in partnership with and for their benefit. While we recognize that we cannot do everything, we remain committed to making meaningful daily contributions to support the essential needs of forest-adjacent populations. As part of efforts to protect the newly established Beampingaratsy protected area, Nitidae, our local partner, is providing 15 fiberglass canoes to facilitate river transport across the three affected municipalities. This initiative not only enhances the living conditions of local communities but also significantly eases the pressures exerted on the forest. This is made possible thanks to the generous support of our incredible supporters in advancing Rainforest Trust’s mission in Madagascar. #MEDD #RainforestTrust #Nitidae #DREDDAnosy

  • Rainforest Trust and Fundación Ecominga are honoring the memory of Mark Gruin, former Rainforest Trust Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, by naming a newly identified orchid species in Ecuador. This orchid symbolizes Mark’s lifelong commitment to conservation and his advocacy for empowering local organizations in the protection of biodiversity. Mark passed away in 2022, but his legacy lives on in the landscapes he helped protect and the budding conservationists he mentored. The orchid named in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to his work and a reminder of his dedication to preserving nature’s wonders.

What an incredible week at the CBD COP 16 United Nations Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia. Such an amazing opportunity to learn from conservation leaders around the world and meet so many of Rainforest Trust's grantees in person. Feeling grateful to be part of this team that worked so hard to help bring our partner's voices to this space.
