  • How do you nourish soil? This #WorldSoilDay, Re-Alliance members are reflecting on the importance of healthy, living soil and how they build soil in their work. Re-Alliance Trustee Gideon Adeyeni says, "soil is our life support system... The regeneration of our planet begins with us caring for soil." Re-Alliance member and co-founder of YICE Uganda, Winnie Tushabe acknowledges that, "a healthy soil is a habitat to many living things." YICE work with refugees across Uganda to support their needs and livelihoods through regeneration and #Permaculture design. Their Permaculture and food-forest inspired gardens help boost biodiversity, feed families and communities - and it all begins with healthy soils. How do they do it? "We practice minimal tillage to protect the soil. We practice mulching to prevent soil erosion and degradation." YICE also recently worked in partnership with Re-Alliance to trial Ecosan composting toilets in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, which creates rich humanure and nutrient-dense urine fertiliser that feeds soils, perfect for use with tree crops. YICE team member Mohammed comments, "healthy soils provide the nutrients we need to grow nutritious food, protect our water supply, and even help combat climate change." Many thanks to the wonderful network of Re-Alliance members who are deeply engaging with their ecosystems to build and nourish healthy soils every day, not just on World Soil Day. • 🌍 Is it possible to respond regeneratively AND rapidly to disasters? In our latest blog, Re-Alliance’s James Atherton challenges traditional humanitarian responses and explores how we can integrate holistic, community-led approaches that nurture resilience and regeneration - even in rapid disaster response scenarios. Featuring insights from Green Releaf Initiative’s Sarah Queblatin and Tinka John from Uganda’s KAFRED, the article maps the stages of disaster response and proposes innovative ways to support eco-social regeneration through local knowledge, ecosystem restoration, and community empowerment. Discover what an Adaptive Rapid Regenerative Response Plan (A3RP) could look like and how ecological literacy is key to healing eco-social systems. 📖 Read the full article on the Re-Alliance blog - https://lnkd.in/evVXhufz #RegenerativeResponse #Permaculture #Resilience #EcoSocialRegeneration #DisasterRecovery #SustainableDevelopment

Is it possible to respond regeneratively and rapidly to immediate disasters? At Re-Alliance, we host regular Communities of Practice for the network of practitioners who are integrating nature-inspired principles of #Permaculture and #Regeneration into humanitarian and development work. Yesterday, Jackie Kearney hosted a fantastic session about regeneration in a disaster response. Often, when we think about a regenerative response in disasters, we think about either before or well after the disaster occurs. We think about disaster preparedness and resilience building to ready communities and ecosystems for an oncoming shock. Or maybe we think about regrowing and rebuilding and repairing once a disaster has happened. But what about the immediate, rapid response? Is it possible to respond quickly in a way that is nature-inspired, grounded in Place, and healing of eco-social systems? Based on the rich discussions in the Community of Practice, we wrote a blog post exploring what a rapid regenerative response could look like. Because the world needs more acronyms, we named this an A3RP: an Adaptive Rapid Regenerative Response Plan. https://lnkd.in/e4Y68m2Q Tinka John from KAFRED in Bigodi, Uganda, rightfully raised some excellent points about how we can start now. He mentioned that the first aim should be to educate people and support people in becoming ecologically literate. If people understand and know a bit about how their ecosystems work, they are more likely to be able to respond immediately in ways that build the health of eco-social systems, rapidly and adaptively in their contexts. Thank you, Tinka!

  • Exciting Collaboration Opportunity! Re-Alliance have been working with School of the Earth Nea Guinea on the ‘Wind Mobile’ project, an innovative action research initiative aimed at developing low-cost, locally manufactured micro wind turbines for electricity generation in refugee camps and settlements. We're looking for passionate groups within the Re-Alliance network to partner with our designer and create a design for a micro wind turbine tailored to your local context. This collaboration involves several online calls to understand your needs, followed by the creation and review of an initial design. Interested? Email Kostas at School of the Earth: info@neaguinea.org with your organisation’s name, location, and a brief about your work and interest in micro wind turbines. #WindTurbines #RenewableEnergy #SustainableSolutions #CommunityEmpowerment #ReAlliance
