The personal face of business and why it matters. A Thanksgiving story of true resilience!
At it's core, business is relational, but in our busy professional lives we often set aside the personal in pursuit of productivity. However, if you take a moment to look beyond the surface of a person, client or employee, you just might be surprised how that connection can provide a greater perspective. In honor of Thanksgiving we want to share the story of my daughter Mackenzie; who's path though filled with uncertainty, serves as an inspiration every day. At only 18 years old, a ripped hammock caused her to fall more than eight stories off the edge of a cliff in Hawaii. In a single moment her life was irrevocably altered as she had to fight to survive despite life threatening injuries. After over an hour of waiting in grueling conditions, an air ambulance transported her to the hospital where she learned she had a collapsed lung and 12 broken bones. After multiple surgeries, and several weeks in the hospital, she was finally able to return back to Orlando where the road to recovery was just beginning. The trauma, both physical and mental, was an enormous challenge to overcome as all her future plans were seemingly gone. However, two years later she has shown how determination and resiliency pay off. After months of rehabilitation and an additional surgery, she has since graduated from Valencia college, and is currently continuing her education at the University of South Florida while working part-time as a content creator for Real Image Solutions. The holiday season is all about giving thanks and showing gratitude for others so if you have read this short personal story, I hope it encourages you to take the time to engage both personally and professionally on a deeper level as you never know what people are going through and what you can learn.
