This Thanksgiving, we could talk about so many things we’re thankful for... - Groundbreaking innovations - Incredible technology shaping the built environment - Opportunities to push boundaries - The privilege of building something bigger than ourselves But what we’re really thankful for? It's you. This community. The people. The connections. The moments. Every handshake at R-CON, every laugh shared in the lobby, every late-night conversation about how we can build smarter, stronger, and better together. That’s what makes it all worth it. It’s your passion that drives progress. And we get to help share it. Rewarding would be an understatement. Your ideas that spark innovation. Your stories that remind us why this industry matters. The built environment isn’t just about structures. It’s about people. And you, our community, are what make this journey so meaningful. From all of us at RCN, thank you for inspiring us, challenging us, and reminding us that we can achieve more than we ever thought possible, together. Here’s to another year of building. Both in the field and in our relationships. 💙 #thanksgiving #community #grateful #rcon2024

Imagine laser scanners, so small, they fit in your pocket. Wouldn't that make jobs easier? Or how about so accurate they redefine was precision means. Or even so intuitive that anyone can use them. This isn’t science fiction—it’s the direction we’re heading. We're excited to be at the forefront of technology, and we can't wait to see what you build. If you haven't listened to it yet, Paul Hedgepath was an amazing guest on our podcast. From BIM workflows to on-site innovations, Paul shared insights on where tech is going and how it’s shaping the future of construction. Listen to the full episode here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gcNNGT6Q

A cosmic story with very down-to-earth lessons. This AEC Error of the Week's all about cable failure. Here's the scoop ✉️ Puerto Rico’s iconic Arecibo Observatory (famous for hunting pulsars, discovering exoplanets, and sending humanity’s first “Hey aliens, u up?” message) collapsed in 2020. The cause? Not alien sabotage, but something much more mundane: cable failure. Turns out, zinc creep (no, not a dance move or a comic book villain) was quietly deforming the anchors holding the telescope's massive cables. Throw in Hurricane Maria’s battering winds in 2017 and some overlooked structural warnings, and Arecibo was left vulnerable. By the time engineers spotted the problem, it was too late. The mighty 900-ton receiver came crashing down. Here’s where it stings: If modern reality capture tools like 3D laser scanning, drones, photogrammetry, and VR simulations had been in play, the telescope’s silent deterioration might have been caught in time. Reality capture isn’t just about fancy tech; it’s about giving us a fighting chance against the unseen forces that threaten our greatest creations. Whether it’s a space-age dish or your next big project, the lesson is clear: Never underestimate the power of seeing the whole picture. What’s one tool you swear by to keep your projects in check? #builtenvironment #disaster #aec #constructionfail

When you think about the future of the built environment, it’s easy to focus on the obvious shiny outcomes. - Stunning 3D models - Data-rich digital twins - Seamless integration of design and reality But what about the tools that make it all possible? How often do we think about the machines that get the job done? Here’s the secret sauce 🥫 It comes as no surprise. It's powerful workstations. When you are deep in the flow on a Dell laptop, you really get it. You finally have a machine designed to keep up with the demands of jobs in the built environment. With Dell Technologies' hardware, Intel Business' processors, and NVIDIA Design and Visualization's graphics technology, your next workstation won't just “get the job done." They redefine what’s considered "done." It's not just done. It's done fast... done well... it's done right. 💡 According to the Dell study we shared recently, modern workstations increase productivity for professionals by up to 24% compared to outdated hardware. That’s time saved, more projects done faster, and more creative energy to push the work further. If you're interested, read the full study here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gPm2EK79 The tools don’t just help us work smarter. They inspire us to dream bigger. So dream big. #builtenvironment #workstations #dell #intel #nvidia

In Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia isn't just a cathedral—it's a 141-year-long epic that makes most project delays look like minor hiccups. Started in the 1880s, it was supposed to be a "quick" build. Fast forward to 2024, and it's still under construction, with a crane towering over Gaudí's masterpiece like a perpetual to-do list. This ambitious project has faced many setbacks: 👉 Gaudí’s untimely death (via tram 🚋). 👉 The Spanish Civil War, where anarchists literally burned the plans. 👉 Funding struggles that could rival any failed crowdfunding campaign. 👉 Oh, and a global pandemic, because why not? But the biggest lesson? The lack of reliable backup. When the Civil War turned Gaudí’s workshop into ash, future architects were left playing the world's hardest game of Pictionary with incomplete sketches. With today's tech, this story could’ve been wildly different: 🛠️ Laser scanning + photogrammetry = preserved plans, no matter what. 📹 360° imaging = proof of progress for donors (and doubters). 🏗️ BIM + VR = seamless collaboration on a project spanning centuries. As we inch closer to the 2026 (or 2040?) completion date, the Sagrada Familia reminds us that even the grandest visions need modern tools and a little reality check. Is the future of construction... robotic? 🤖 What do you think the next 10 years will bring to the job site? In the next decade, it's possible that we’ll see robots taking on tasks we once thought were purely human. Drilling, cutting, fabricating. They could potentially handle it all. 👨🔧 But it’s not about replacing people. It’s about making jobs safer, faster, and more precise. Think fewer injuries, more efficient builds, and less burnout. The best part? It frees us up to focus on the creative, high-level work that drives innovation. The tools are coming. The question is: are we ready to work with them? Thanks to Steven Uecke & Matthew Byrd for an incredible discussion. If you missed it, watch the whole conversation at the link below. ▶ https://lnkd.in/gV9gUjgX #constructiontech #robotics #construction #future
