About us
IDS Publishing Corporation is the exclusive publisher of the Reiss Motivation Profile® (RMP), the first empirically developed, standardized, and comprehensive assessment of what motivates an individual. Founded in 1988 by Professor Steven Reiss, our company is building a global network to advance The Science of Motivation® and to promote applications of the RMP. IDS Publishing Corporation is a woman-owned company dedicated to maintaining the high scientific standards that defined the development of the Reiss Motivation Profile®. Deep down, what motivates you? What aspects of your life are most meaningful to you? What goals drive your behavior? Professor Reiss answered these questions in a unique way – scientifically. He asked thousands of people from different cultures and diverse backgrounds about their intrinsic motives. This research identified the 16 basic desires of human nature that determine our values, predict our behavior, influence the development of our personality traits, and create harmony or conflict in our interpersonal relationships. Based on The Science of Motivation®, the RMP leads to insights about leadership style, resilience, loyalty, competitive spirit, team orientation, interpersonal skills, and risk-taking tendencies. Thus, it is used in leadership training, professional development, team building, conflict resolution, and diversity and inclusion efforts. The Reiss Motivation Profile® benefits both organizations and employees. It increases employee engagement and reduces staff turnover by illuminating why people do what they do, and it creates a culture in which individuals can thrive.

Why do some members of previous generations report difficulty managing GenZers? The Reiss Motivation Profile® (RMP), a standardized measure of intrinsic motives and core values, provides insight into this issue. Compared to older people across the globe, 12,000+ individuals born between 1997 and 2012 scored significantly lower, on average, for RMP Curiosity, which assesses the desire for understanding. People with high scores for Curiosity value theoretical knowledge and ideas, while those with low scores value practical knowledge, common sense, and learning by doing. An older manager who likes to think deeply and whose lengthy communications include explanations of "why" may turn off a younger employee who values useful information and who wants to know only what is necessary to get the job done.
