Yesterday, The Chicago Plan Commission approved the proposed Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park located at Related Midwest’s development site, 8080 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive in South Chicago. For the Related Midwest team, a project of this magnitude is the culmination of more than four decades of development experience across Chicago. We are eager to bring that expertise to South Chicago for one of the largest and most transformative projects in our city’s history.

Congratulations Yanet Garcia, Related Midwest Vice President of Construction, honored as one of Crain's Chicago Business Notable Latino Leaders. In her role at Related Midwest, Yanet is instrumental in Related’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Directive, a program that ensures all Related projects exceed equity, diversity and inclusion standards and promote the development of sustainable careers and business ventures for women and minorities. Yanet is dedicated to empowering the next generation of real estate professionals.

Ann Thompson, Executive Vice President of Architecture and Design at Related Midwest, recently participated in a Gensler panel discussion that brought together voices that are shaping the next chapter of Chicago’s urban development and global standing. Panelists explored how collaboration between developers, civic organizations, and the city is driving innovation in housing, infrastructure, and neighborhood revitalization.

Last week, Related Midwest team members were excited to join SkyART, nonprofit organization that uses free visual arts programming as a vehicle for Chicago’s South Side youth to create, to communicate effectively, and to learn the essential skills and creative thinking needed to succeed. Team members volunteered for a day of service at the community garden and green house. Related Midwest and the 8080 S. Professional Women in Construction recently brought together the Chicago chapter for a lively discussion on affordable housing's holistic approaches and creative solutions drive by Chicago's talent. Shreya Singh, Related Midwest Senior Development Associate, was a panelist at the event and spoke to the creative solutions Related Midwest is implementing to transform affordable housing in Chicago.

Related Midwest was thrilled to host a group of University of Wisconsin-Madison Real Estate students at The Row Fulton Market, Chicago’s first building constructed under new Affordable Illinois legislation, with 80% market-rate and 20% affordable units. The students enjoyed an insightful tour of the 80/20 development and had the opportunity to hear from Sarah Wick, Related Midwest Senior Vice President, who shared her expertise on the tax abatement program and the Affordable Requirements Ordinance.

Watch how teens from After School Matters, including residents of South Shore on The Park, came together to bring their creative vision to life in a vibrant new mural—an inspiring outcome of the partnership with Related Affordable Foundation and Related Midwest, celebrating public art and community impact.

Related Midwest with elected officials, project partners, community stakeholders and residents recently celebrated the reopening of Poplar Place, a 100 unit affordable family apartment community in Springfield, IL. In addition to modernizing the residences, amenities include 2.5 acres of green space, a community center, and a playground. This transformation builds on Related Midwest’s mission to preserve and improve affordable housing.
