💔 Baby Wateen came close to not reaching her first birthday. It was the unwavering determination of her mother Alaa that brought her to Al Awda’s hospital in Nuseirat, where she received the malnutrition treatment she desperately needed. 🕊️ Since receiving supplements, vitamins and fortified milk, Wateen’s acute malnutrition has improved from severe to moderate. 👩🏽⚕️ She is one of over 6,000 people supported with nutrition services since August 2024 through a Relief International-led project called SALAM which strengthens health services across Gaza. “People are no longer primarily focused on the immediate threat of bombs, but they are increasingly aware of what they lack: food, shelter, and essential healthcare. Right now, there is an urgent need to focus on nutrition support. With the right kind of help, unnecessary deaths can be prevented,” stressed Asmaa Tamoos, who coordinates Relief International’s nutrition response in Gaza. 🙏 Whilst nutrition services have been scarcely available, Al Awda’s hospital in Nuseirat has been able to provide this care with support from Relief International and thanks to funding from EU in Emergencies. Thank you.

After decades of conflict, access to healthcare in Afghanistan, especially in remote locations, remains extremely limited. Yet treatment for diseases like tuberculosis (TB) is critical. This serious, contagious illness is a high risk in Afghanistan and can be fatal if left untreated. In 2023, TB claimed the lives of 1.25 million people worldwide. 🔬 Last year, Relief International tested over 31,000 people for suspected TB in Afghanistan's Nimroz and Helmand provinces. ✅ Over 2,000 cases were confirmed and treated with Directly Observed Therapy (DOTS) with a success rate of 95%. 👩⚕️DOTS treatment takes from 3-9 months, and depends on health workers supporting their patients to take medication consistently over this period. 🏥 Patients were also screened for HIV, which would put them at higher risk of developing and dying from TB. 👶 As a result of thorough contact tracing, over 3,000 children were placed on Isoniazid Preventive Therapy which reduces the risk of being infected by TB following exposure. Relief International’s team, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is dedicated to ensuring the timely diagnosis and treatment of TB, as well as other life-threatening illnesses, in Afghanistan. 💙 Please consider donating to today to help us continue this vital work. #EndTB #HealthForAll #Afghanistan

📌 In Ulang County of Upper Nile, South Sudan, access to clean drinking water was once a major challenge. Women and children walked for hours to collect water but it wasn't safe to drink, leading to widespread waterborne diseases like diarrhea and stomach infections. 💧 Relief International worked to construct a borehole in 2022 which continues to provide life-saving access to clean water today. A borehole management committee was also formed at the time to ensure the borehole remains functional for years to come. 🌱 Now the community is healthier, children are spared from waterborne illnesses, and families have more time for education, farming and livelihoods. 💙 However with over 8,500 people relying on a single borehole, the need for more water, sanitation and health services is urgent. Please consider donating today. Together, we can implement sustainable solutions that save lives and support long-term health within South Sudan’s rural communities. #SouthSudan #WASH #CleanWater #HealthForAll #HumanitarianAid

Rolland Gueneau, Relief International's Area Director for #Gaza, speaks to CNN from Khan Younis. He says whilst we have been able to deliver essential aid to Al Awda's hospitals in Nuseirat and Jabalia in recent weeks, it is only a drop in the ocean compared to the level of need we are witnessing. The living conditions in Gaza are below every international standard or threshold we have ever set or observed. Beyond these initial weeks of fragile respite, the #ceasefire agreement must be upheld permanently so the painful, uphill path to rehabilitation can begin. It is critical that civilians continue to have greater access to the humanitarian aid they desperately need, as well as the essential services they have been stripped of like basic health care, water, and shelter. Thank you to EU in Emergencies for making these important deliveries of medical supplies, hospital beds, blankets, clothing, toilet paper and other hygiene items possible 🙏

⛽ Fuel is essential for Al-Zahrawi pediatric hospital in Damascus, #Syria. Without it, the incubators that keep newborns alive stop working and critical surgeries cannot take place. 🛑 When a severe lack of supply meant the facility was on the brink of shut down, Relief International was able to support, securing a quick shipment to meet this urgent need for fuel. 👉 This was only enough to last 15-20 days. Like the rest of the healthcare system in Syria, the Al-Zahrawi Hospital is hanging by a thread after 13 years of war. As well as a severe lack of fuel, there is a dire shortage of medication and skilled medical staff. ❤️ Relief International is committed to providing hospitals in Syria with the assistance they need to support communities now and over the long-term.

Already gripped by famine, ongoing attacks – including heavy fire and shelling – are isolating Zamzam Camp even further from essential supplies. Relief International is one of only two organizations still operational in the camp and our dedicated teams are working with communities to establish sustainable sources of nutritious food. 🌾 So far, we have delivered faming tools and drought-resistant seeds such as eggplant, okra and carrots to over a thousand households. 🌾 Eight farming groups - each with 20-25 members - have been formed and trained in agricultural practices. Whilst we have been forced to temporarily suspend due to the bombings, we are ready to restart as soon as it is safe to do so. #Sudan #SudanConflict #KeepEyesOnSudan

This week on Wednesday 12 February, Abdelhameed Abdurhaman Saber, a dedicated Community Health Worker who had been working with Relief International since 2009, was tragically killed amidst fighting in Zamzam Camp, North Darfur. Heartbreakingly Rosyla Mustafa Mukhtar was killed just a few days earlier - Rosyla had been working with Relief International on a short-term contract to conduct a needs assessment at a health facility in El Fasher. This marks four Relief International staff members being lost since the war began. Kashif Shafique says, “At this deeply painful moment, I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the surviving family members of our colleagues, and to all those who worked alongside them. We stand together in mourning as we honor their memory and their dedication to helping others.” "In North Darfur the situation remains extremely volatile. Despite immense obstacles, our team members continue to provide life-saving healthcare and nutritional support to communities in desperate need. “The safety and security of our staff is our highest priority. We are continually assessing risk and exploring every possible measure to keep them safe. Today we again reiterate that humanitarians are not a target. “This conflict has been raging for almost two years. Millions upon millions of people have suffered horrific violence, forced displacement from their homes and famine-like conditions. It must not continue any longer. It is time for the international community to step up, and to engage with all conflicting parties to agree a ceasefire now. Immediate action is critical.”

For the first time since the war began, we were able to deliver vital supplies to Jabalia, reaching the only remaining functional hospital in north Gaza. Essential supplies for operations also made it to Al Awda Hospital in Nuseirat. Kits containing blankets, toilet paper, clothing, and other hygiene essentials will be distributed to the most vulnerable, including families of children under five receiving treatment in malnutrition stabilization. This is a powerful reminder of what is possible when humanitarians are able to act. The needs across Gaza are immense. After 15 months of relentless war that has pushed the health system to the brink of collapse, preventing further loss is critical. This temporary ceasefire must hold. Relief International is proud to support Al Awda Association Hospitals in Nuseirat and Jabalia. With support from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (EU in Emergencies and ECHO Middle East). Despite significant interruptions, Relief International is working to continue and expand lifesaving care.

📢 In #Türkiye, thousands of children with disabilities are denied education—not by choice, but by barriers that shouldn’t exist. Relief International Türkiye’s latest advocacy report highlights the key challenges preventing children from accessing education: 🔹 Inaccessible schools – Lack of ramps, elevators, and inclusive learning materials 🔹 Limited transportation options – No adapted school transport available 🔹 Financial barriers – Families struggle to afford assistive devices and school costs 🔹 Health-related challenges – Frequent hospital visits and lack of psychosocial support disrupt children’s education As a result, many children remain out of school, excluded from opportunities that shape their future. 🚀 At Relief International, we’re working to change this. Our teams are advocating for improved infrastructure and transportation, supporting access to assistive devices, strengthening psychosocial support for children, and raising awareness among families and school staff on inclusive education. 📖 Read the full advocacy report to learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eyHEac4p

The suffering in Gaza hasn’t stopped. Hospitals remain overwhelmed, children are malnourished, and families are struggling to survive. But this temporary ceasefire has given a crucial window to deliver life-saving care. At Al Awda’s Hospital in Nuseirat, Dr. Wisal Abu Laban is leading a stabilization center which provides critical medical and nutritional care for children. Dr Wisal and her team are striving to treat young patients in dire need after being cut off from the nutrition they require for the past 15 months. Relief International, with support from EU in Emergencies (ECHO) is working tirelessly to keep these hospitals running. Every second counts.
