We’ve been hard at work here building our Virtual Production studio at Renegade HQ here in Charlotte, NC, and we’re making great progress! But what is virtual production you might ask? To put it simply, virtual production is a technological video practice that seamlessly blends a real-life subject into a computer generated, 3D environment, mirroring exact camera movements through camera tracking techniques. The 3D environment can replace the green screen or is casted onto an LED volume behind the subject. The key here is the composition of real and virtual is seen LIVE rather than waiting until post-production, which means we can make more informed decisions and changes in the moment, saving time and money. As you can see in this video, we filmed our RED Digital Cinema camera box as the subject. With accurate lighting, repeatable and accurate movement with our SISU Cinema Robotics cinema robot, and a quick green screen key in post-production, we were able to place the camera box on a table in a dimly lit cigar lounge.
