Constraints and setting limitations to fuel creative growth isn't unique to just Ryan Reynolds It's a trait that lots of founders and leaders of game studios have too. From Ken Levine's vision of Bioshock, to numerous past guests on my podcast, this concept holds lots of untapped potential. It's kind of interesting that through limitations, greater learning and opportunities present themselves. Don't you think?

We get a lot of credit at Maximum Effort for fastversing but not enough has been said about how MNTN is transforming advertising. Mark Douglas and his team have made getting your brand on TV - which is still a magical place for advertisers - as easy as setting up a search campaign. And they continue to break new ground with products like MNTN Matched, matching up advertisers with those who are most likely to take action. This means the commercials deliver 6x more site traffic, 2x more revenue, and 2x lower cost per acquisition. Thank you Fast Company for the recognition of the entire team’s work to innovate advertising for everyone.

The one thing I want all indie studios to know about demand. (read only if you want to truly stand out) TLDR: Surface trends won't cut it; dig deeper into player needs. 1. Don’t Just Follow Trends - High-demand genres are tempting, but risky. - Slapping a “new hook” on trends won’t guarantee success. - Understand the underlying reasons for the trend’s popularity. 2. Understand True Player Pain and Fulfillment - Players are driven by deeper emotional needs. - Pain points and fulfillment trump trending genres. - Address these needs to create a lasting connection. 3. Exceed Player Expectations - Go beyond meeting demand; aim to surpass it. - Dig into what players truly want, not just what’s popular. - Surpassing expectations sets your game apart. Then: - Identify specific player frustrations. - Explore what fulfills your audience emotionally. - Align your game design with these insights. - Challenge the high-demand genre mentality. - Focus on deep player connections. This way, your game will not only meet demand but exceed it. Making a hit game is very hard to do. You need insights and creativity. You can meet market demand by just doing step 2. But when you exceed it… You’ll truly stand out. P.S. If you’re struggling to stand out, DM me. I'm here to help!
