🌍 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 The REPTES project has made a significant leap towards sustainable development with its groundbreaking research unveiled at the Carnot 2024 Belgian Symposium of Thermodynamics. This event, hosted at the University of Liège, Belgium, from December 16-18, 2024, showcased two pioneering studies that highlight the potential of advanced technologies in promoting sustainable energy. 🔍 𝐒̲𝐭̲𝐮̲𝐝̲𝐲̲ ̲𝟏̲:̲ ̲𝐇̲𝐲̲𝐛̲𝐫̲𝐢̲𝐝̲ ̲𝐎̲𝐟̲𝐟̲-̲𝐠̲𝐫̲𝐢̲𝐝̲ ̲𝐄̲𝐧̲𝐞̲𝐫̲𝐠̲𝐲̲ ̲𝐒̲𝐲̲𝐬̲𝐭̲𝐞̲𝐦̲𝐬̲ ̲𝐰̲𝐢̲𝐭̲𝐡̲ ̲𝐑̲𝐞̲𝐯̲𝐞̲𝐫̲𝐬̲𝐞̲ ̲𝐎̲𝐬̲𝐦̲𝐨̲𝐬̲𝐢̲𝐬̲ ̲𝐃̲𝐞̲𝐬̲𝐚̲𝐥̲𝐢̲𝐧̲𝐚̲𝐭̲𝐢̲𝐨̲𝐧̲ Presented by the University of Cagliari team, this study seamlessly integrated reverse osmosis (RO) desalination with a renewable energy source-pumped thermal energy storage (RES-PTES) system. The research addressed a farm's energy and freshwater needs in #Ben_Guerir, #Morocco. Leveraging Model Predictive Control (MPC) and machine learning-based predictive strategies, the study offered a cost-effective solution for off-grid agricultural communities. 🔹 Key Highlights: - Integration: Seamlessly combines RO desalination with RES-PTES. - Location: Farm in Ben Guerir, Morocco. - Economic Impact: Achieved a 69.4% reduction in the Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS). - Technology: Utilizes MPC and machine learning strategies. 🔍 𝐒̲𝐭̲𝐮̲𝐝̲𝐲̲ ̲𝟐̲:̲ ̲𝐓̲𝐡̲𝐞̲𝐨̲𝐫̲𝐞̲𝐭̲𝐢̲𝐜̲𝐚̲𝐥̲ ̲𝐀̲𝐩̲𝐩̲𝐥̲𝐢̲𝐜̲𝐚̲𝐛̲𝐢̲𝐥̲𝐢̲𝐭̲𝐲̲ ̲𝐨̲𝐟̲ ̲𝐂̲𝐚̲𝐫̲𝐧̲𝐨̲𝐭̲ ̲𝐁̲𝐚̲𝐭̲𝐭̲𝐞̲𝐫̲𝐢̲𝐞̲𝐬̲ ̲𝐟̲𝐨̲𝐫̲ ̲𝐀̲𝐠̲𝐫̲𝐢̲𝐜̲𝐮̲𝐥̲𝐭̲𝐮̲𝐫̲𝐚̲𝐥̲ ̲𝐄̲𝐧̲𝐞̲𝐫̲𝐠̲𝐲̲ ̲𝐃̲𝐞̲𝐦̲𝐚̲𝐧̲𝐝̲𝐬̲ Conducted by the University of Liège team, this research compared two systems: a heat pump providing both power and cooling. The findings indicated significant economic advantages, especially in areas with lower grid reliability and higher diesel-to-grid price ratios. 🔹 Key Highlights: - System: Heat pump providing both power and cooling. - Economic Benefits: Significant advantages in low grid reliability and high diesel-to-grid price ratios. • Today (October 2, 2025), we had the pleasure of hosting Assoc. Prof. mouad arrad at the University of Cagliari for an intensive one-day workshop. Prof. Arrad is a valued collaborator on our project "REPTES - Renewable Plants Integrated with Pumped Thermal Energy Storage for Sustainable Satisfaction of Energy and Agricultural Needs of African Communities," which is part of the LEAP-RE program. We hope that mouad arrad enjoyed his visit and found the day insightful and productive. Additionally, during this event, we benefited from the expertise of a skilled chemical engineer who conducted a workshop on integrating the PTES system with Aspen for hydrogen and ammonia production. We look forward to sharing positive results from this practical research in the near future. Thank you to all participants and contributors for making this event a success! #UniCA #REPTES #RenewableEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #LEAPRE #UniversityofCagliari #hydrogen #ammonia #PTES

We are thrilled to announce that our paper, "Sustainable Off-Grid Energy Solutions: Pumped Thermal Energy Storage Modeling and Its Role in Optimizing Renewable Energy Utilization," was successfully presented at ICEEE2024: International Conference on Energy, Ecology, and Environment, held in Rome, Italy from August 26-29, 2024. This presentation highlighted our groundbreaking research on Pumped Thermal Energy Storage (PTES) and its vital role in maximizing the use of renewable energy in off-grid applications. The findings demonstrate how PTES technology can revolutionize sustainable energy solutions and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources. We extend our deepest gratitude to our esteemed colleagues at the University of Cagliari: Mario Petrollese, Giorgio Cau, Daniele Cocco, Vittorio Tola, and Mostafa Esmaeili Shayan, Ph.D., P.Eng. Your invaluable expertise and collaborative efforts have been instrumental in the success of this project. This research was made possible through the generous support of the LEAP-RE programme under the European Union's Horizon 2020, Grant Agreement No. 963530. We are immensely grateful for this funding, which underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing global energy challenges. We also appreciate everyone involved in ICEEE2024 for providing a platform to explore and discuss innovative solutions for a sustainable future. We look forward to continuing our work and fostering further collaborations to drive the global energy transition. Here’s to more breakthroughs and partnerships for a sustainable world! 🌱 #REPTES #SustainableEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyStorage #Sustainability #Engineering #ClimateAction #CleanEnergy #Carnot #Thermodynamics #HeatPump #ORC #CarnotBattery #ICEEE2024
