The Plastic Reality Project is our flagship event, designed to bring brand partners and stakeholders closer to the realities of plastic pollution and the solutions we are collectively enabling. It offers an opportunity to understand the tangible outcomes of sustainability commitments and align strategies with actionable insights. As part of the Plastic Reality Project 2024, we visited Project Hara Kal, one of our key impact initiatives in Kerala, India, operated in partnership with Green Worms. Here, attendees saw how plastic recovery systems address environmental challenges while empowering local communities. During the visit, Brett Sitter from Andersen Corporation observed the efficiency of the door-to-door plastic recovery process and the enthusiastic adoption by the local residents. Dwana Strat from Innersense Organic Beauty reflected on the pride waste workers take in their work and how the community deeply values their contributions. #SustainabilityInAction #PlasticRealityProject #CommunityImpact

Meet Saroj and Akash: A Mother and Son’s Journey Towards Dignity and Empowerment “I remember the old days when my kids were small. We didn’t have much, but I always made sure their education came first. I still remember when Akash had only one school uniform. I would wash it every night so he could wear it again the next morning. You know how kids are; they never notice the little sacrifices, but as a mother, it was my way of making sure he never had to miss school.” Saroj says while looking back at her journey. Saroj's journey was one of resilience, shaped by years of hardship. For many years, she worked at a local scrap dealer’s informal facility, sorting waste under unsafe and grueling conditions. Her role, though vital, came with irregular pay, a lack of safety measures, and an overwhelming sense of being undervalued. Despite the challenges, Saroj remained committed to providing for her family, especially her son, Akash. When Akash joined Project Pavitra Parvat (operated in partnership with Waste Warriors Society) in 2022, he worked on managing and collecting waste, particularly multilayer plastics and used beverage cartons. Akash recognized how different the working environment was at Project Pavitra Parvat and noticed how the job not only prioritized worker safety, but also treated their employees with dignity and respect. It wasn’t just about the mission—it was about the people behind the work. Akash continued to grow in his role and soon was promoted to Operations Associate at the MRF(Material Recovery Facility). Akash wanted his mother to experience the same supportive culture. Encouraged by her son, Saroj took a leap of faith and joined Project Pavitra Parvat. The moment she stepped into the organization, Saroj knew she was in a place that valued her. The clean, safe, and supportive environment was a stark contrast to the unsafe, unpredictable conditions she had endured for so long. She was provided with protective equipment, health checkups, and most importantly, a sense of dignity. For the first time, Saroj felt like her work was being respected. The steady income and job security allowed Saroj to improve her financial stability without compromising her health. The work-life balance offered meant that she could manage her family responsibilities with ease. As she worked alongside Akash, Saroj couldn’t help but feel immense pride in both their journeys. Akash’s achievements were a testament to his hard work and dedication, and now, Saroj could see herself contributing meaningfully alongside him. “It’s amazing to see how far we’ve both come,” she often reflects. “I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s become.”

America Recycles Day: Change Starts with Small Actions ♻️ Today, we celebrate the powerful ripple effects of recycling - contributing to cleaner oceans, greener cities, and empowered communities, while giving us a peak at what a truly circular economy could be like. Thanks to global recycling efforts, more than 600 million metric tons of materials are diverted from landfills each year, transforming waste into opportunities for positive impact. But there’s so much more to do, especially when it comes to plastic pollution. It's only apt to share about our project Nuevo Ciclo on this day. A project on a mission to create circularity through its innovative recycling model. 🌱 Through collaboration with our impact partner Botellas Design and the local community of residents and organizations, Project Nuevo Ciclo empowers the collection of low-value plastic waste. This isn’t just about keeping plastics out of landfills; it’s about turning these materials into Recycled Plastic Lumber (RPL) which has proven to be a vital resource for the community. Over the past months, Project Nuevo Ciclo has contributed towards transforming plastic waste into: 🏫 48 classroom desks 🏞️ 4 playgrounds - joyful spaces for children to learn and play These are more than just structures; they’re symbols of what’s possible when we see waste as a resource. On this America Recycles Day, let’s remember: small actions lead to big changes. Join us in creating a world where recycling isn’t just a habit—it’s a movement. 🌍 #AmericaRecyclesDay #PlasticRecovery #CircularEconomy #SustainableCommunities #NuevoCiclo
