𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 (arXiv, 2i2c, Astera Institute, Michael Eisen): Journals are not the only arbiters of truth—let's stop pretending they are. A new system must reflect how science actually operates. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (Anastasia Gamick): Tackling infrastructure problems in science with nonprofit startups. Modeled after the Hubble, CERN, and Human Genome Project. 𝐀𝐈 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 (Andrew White): FutureHouse, an Eric Schmidt-funded nonprofit, is on a moonshot mission to build AI systems capable of independent scientific reasoning. 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐃𝐞𝐒𝐜𝐢): - Ishan Goyal from Coinbase: DeSci enables global participation and rapid capital formation for science. - DAOs fund innovative areas like quantum biology, which traditional grants ignore. - DeSci communities focus on cures—not just treatments—creating patient-driven research models. 𝐃𝐞𝐒𝐜𝐢 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 (Paul Kohlhaas): DeSci is enabling a world where we can tap into untapped scientific talent. Paul shared that in the last 48 hours alone, over $1.4M has flowed into science to fund novel experiments via decentralized funding mechanisms. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐇𝐮𝐛’𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 - Launched reward and reputation algorithm v2 to incentivize replicable research. - Supported 15 studies with funding (grants up to $50K). - Delivered 2,720 peer reviews in just 5 months with an average 9.4-day turnaround. 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐂𝐨𝐧: ResearchHub is launching a journal using its paid peer review marketplace: - Preprint-first model for immediate publication. - Rapid 21-day turnaround. - Paid peer reviews. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓? Patrick Joyce teased exciting initiatives: - Funding: Doubling down on funding preregistrations. - Prediction markets for research. - Staking: Web3 endowments.
