Private-public investment to ensure the future of a seaside community and blue economy village
About us
ResilientWoodsHole is working to secure the future of the vibrant and productive seaside village of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, in the face of major climate impacts. Woods Hole is home to world-renowned scientific organizations, a vibrant business and residential community, and serves as a vital ferry link to the island of Martha’s Vineyard. With a mission-focused need to be proximate to the sea, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), and NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NOAA) initiated the development of a long-range framework to prepare for sea-level rise and increasing extreme weather events. A cooperative effort is underway to assess these threats and jointly develop solutions that frame responses for the broader Woods Hole community.

Our Phase 4 Project Report is now available! ResilientWoodsHole continues to define vulnerabilities and develop action plans to adapt to the challenges of climate-driven sea-level rise. The Phase 4 report builds upon prior work conducted by the project partners, including Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Marine Biological Laboratory, NOAA Fisheries NE/MA, and the Town of Falmouth, addressing institutional vulnerability assessments, Woods Hole and Town of Falmouth vulnerability assessments, adaptation solution assessments, and community engagement. Phase 4 has enabled the continuation of coastal resiliency planning and execution, as well as robust community engagement plan for collective action. Phase 4 was designed to be multifaceted, with investments in the near-term, medium-term, and long-term. This report was funded by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Coastal Resilience Grant https://lnkd.in/gFh36M9U #sealevelrise #climatechange #climateaction #WoodsHole #CapeCod #BlueEconomy

If you missed the chance to see the documentary Inundation District last Sunday as part of Cape Cod Climate Resilience Week, you can check their website for upcoming screenings in Boston, Nantucket and New York. It's the story of Boston's Seaport District, and how lack of foresight puts the area at high risk from climate-driven sea level rise. https://lnkd.in/gZKYf32h #inundationdistrict #inundationdistrictfilm #bostonseaport #sealevelrise #climatechange #climateaction #WoodsHole #CapeCod

Feeling anxious about the impacts of climate change? You are not alone. The American Psychology Association describes eco-anxiety as “the chronic fear of environmental cataclysm that comes from observing the seemingly irrevocable impact of climate change and the associated concern for one's future and that of next generations”. As we work to help reduce the physical aspects of climate change, we can also give ourselves some relief, as well. Cape Cod Coastal Resilience Week is offering a Climate Anxiety Workshop with Kate Schapira via Zoom at noon ET on Friday, June 14. Kate Schapira has been listening to people about climate change for ten years, at the Climate Anxiety Counseling booth and elsewhere. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island, where she teaches nonfiction writing at Brown University and is involved with local efforts toward environmental justice, climate justice and peer mental health support. She is the author of Lessons from the Climate Anxiety Counseling Booth as well as several other books. The seminar is free but registration is required: https://shorturl.at/eL5AH #sealevelrise #climatechange #climateaction #WoodsHole #CapeCod #climateanxiety #ecoanxiety

Welcome to the newest stop on our Woods Hole Climate Walking Trail - Nobska Light! In addition to standing as one of the iconic Cape Cod lighthouses, Nobska Light and its approaches are another example of the vulnerabilities of our community to storm surge and sea level rise. But what's more fun about this stop is the brand new ResilientWoodsHole exhibit! It highlights our ongoing work, and features a 3D model of the village of Woods Hole that illustrates flood-prone areas. The Keepers House and Light open June 4. Stop by, enjoy this iconic location, share and tag us! #sealevelrise #climatechange #climateaction #WoodsHole #CapeCod #BlueEconomy #walkingtrail
