The Torlonia Foundation has announced the first-ever North American tour of ancient Roman sculptures from their collection, the largest and most important private collection of its kind. Established in the early 1800s and cared for by generations of the Torlonia Family, the Torlonia Marbles have never been exhibited outside of Europe, and many of the works have not been on view in nearly a century. “Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection” features examples of the most emblematic genres of ancient marble sculpture, reinforcing the work of the Foundation to advance the appreciation and understanding of this unparalleled collection and the rich cultural heritage it represents: of Western civilization, of the history of collecting, and of archaeology and restoration. The tour premieres next March at the Art Institute of Chicago before traveling to the Kimbell Art Museum and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Read more in The New York Times:

R+A's Senior Vice President Barbara Escobar reflects on striking the right tone in press releases: Did you know that using words like “pleased” and “thrilled” in your press release is likely turning off the media? Hyperbolic marketing speak in press releases is on the rise, according to ADWEEK, and the effect is that it’s undermining the credibility of press releases with journalists. Identifying the news and telling a great story is what cuts through the noise, not over-the-top language that feels disingenuous. So the next time you’re itching to hype up your release, think twice (and listen to the advice of a PR pro!)

Join a diverse panel of Sam Gilliam experts and scholars at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, December 2nd, to examine the pioneering artist’s legacy and influence on contemporary art. This unique celebration of Sam Gilliam dives into works developed in the mid-1960s that disrupted established artistic norms and styles. Relentlessly experimental and inspired by jazz's improvisatory ethos, Gilliam's lyrical abstractions took on an increasing variety of forms, moods, and materials during this time. This program includes a pre-launch of "Sam Gilliam," the first book to comprehensively survey his extraordinary five-decade career, created in collaboration with the Sam Gilliam Foundation.
