Strengthening access to justice by enhancing court alternative dispute resolution systems.

About us

Resolution Systems Institute (RSI) is a unique nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen access to justice by enhancing court alternative dispute resolution (ADR) systems. RSI works directly with state and federal courts throughout the US to develop, monitor and evaluate quality court ADR programs. We have decades of experience and unrivaled expertise in court ADR research and evaluation, and we are able to customize plans to meet courts’ needs. In addition, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, RSI established video eviction mediation programs in three judicial districts serving over 920,000 Illinois residents, and we continue to administer an eviction mediation program in Kane County. RSI also developed and administered three foreclosure mediation programs in Illinois beginning in 2013, as well as a child protection mediation program in Kane County beginning in 2017. RSI’s free online Resource Center offers individuals working in court ADR access to expert guidance, ranging from our Court ADR Basics pages and Guide to Program Success, to Mediation Efficacy Studies, and Special Topics including Online Dispute Resolution; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Access; Restorative Justice; and more. That’s all in addition to our evaluations of court mediation programs that handle cases ranging from foreclosure to trademark and small claims to child protection. • The year may be almost over, but it’s not too late to support causes you care about! You can help courts better serve our communities — particularly people who face our court system without the help of a lawyer. People who first heard of “ODR” or mediation when a court notice informed them they had to use it. People who struggle to pay their rent, and people who rely on that rent to feed their own families. RSI’s research-informed guides and high-quality mediation services help courts make systems-level changes that can improve the lives of people in all of our communities. Yet courts are often overburdened and underfunded, and many are unaware of the help RSI could provide. Will you help RSI reach more courts with our resources to help everyone have access to better ways to resolve conflicts? Please give today at aboutrsi.org/donate. We can't do this without you, and we are so grateful for your support!

  • Giving Tuesday may officially have passed, but it’s not too late to support causes you care about. You can help courts better serve our communities — particularly people who face our court system without the help of a lawyer. Yet courts are often overburdened and underfunded, and many are unaware of the help RSI could provide. Will you help RSI reach more courts with our resources to help everyone have access to better ways to resolve conflicts? Just a small gift of $14.40 pays for us to reach 20 courts with a message about how to improve ADR services to our communities. Please give today at aboutrsi.org/donate.

Breaking Barriers: AAA-ICDR Foundation and RSI Enhance Access to Justice through Inclusive ODR https://lnkd.in/gdq-cYY5 The American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA-ICDR) Foundation is funding the Resolution Systems Institute’s (RSI) OPEN Project, which aims to improve access to online dispute resolution (ODR) for self-represented litigants. High default rates in court-mandated ODR programs, stemming from poor communication and limited digital literacy, necessitate this initiative. The OPEN Project is developing user-friendly resources, including improved notices, websites, guides, and videos, to enhance user understanding and participation. Nationwide usability testing is underway to ensure effectiveness, with materials set for release by March 2025. The project also plans to assist courts in developing and improving their ODR communication strategies.
