✅Tackling plastic contamination in Canada's recycling system, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is taking bold steps to improve recycling efficiency and reduce plastic waste. Our team at RRS was proud to support this effort by evaluating plastic contamination rates and providing actionable insights for new labeling and recycled content regulations. Our Approach: 📌 Collected data from five provinces (BC, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta) to capture regional recycling differences. 📌 Analyzed contamination rates by plastic type and the associated costs to the system. 📌 Developed recommendations for clear recyclability labeling and improved design guidelines. How can we recover the hidden $1.5 billion in our recyclable textile waste? Americans throw out $1.5 billion of recyclable textiles every year. Recovering this value is part of a 3-pronged approach to realize our future recovery value chain fully. Do you know the different types of textile recycling? Mechanical recycling is the most common method for recycling consumer textiles, where physical processing shreds materials into smaller pieces to be recycled into textile materials for further use. Chemical recycling of textiles uses processes that break down materials on a molecular level. When solving for textile waste and recovery, the textile composition and design impact the efficiency and modes of recycling and inform the development of textile recovery programs and policies.
