Great news for the recovery community! Deaths due to opioid overdose were lower across the nation in 2024 than they were in 2023. The Centers for Disease Control reports that there were over 15,000 fewer deaths due to opioid overdose in the 12-month period between June of 2023 and June of 2024, than between June of 2022 and 2023. Patients in recovery may get social anxiety while attending family festive occasions, leading them to overwhelming stress that they may not know how to handle. Share this list of signs of social anxiety with loved ones so they can help their family member in recovery during this time: - Staying on the edges of rooms or trying to blend in - Fidgeting with their hands, pockets, jewelry, or clothing - Visibly breathing heavily or sweating - Always asking for reassurance - Being overly apologetic for minor scenarios such as spilling a drink or bumping into someone If a loved one notices these signs, take the person somewhere quiet. Allow them to breathe and gather their thoughts while providing positive reinforcement.
