The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) supports the strategic priorities of campus leaders at independent colleges and universities. Danny Beckman earned his MA in Criminal Justice from University of Southern Indiana online and shared more about the value his degree has provided him since graduating. He said, “I would say it's definitely been a good return on investment already and should continue to [be] so … I think it was definitely a good choice for me…”

The Council of Graduate Schools recently reported that graduate school enrollment is growing, especially among underrepresented groups, including Black and Latinx students. Some of this growth can be attributed to a stronger demand for advanced degrees in education and counseling. Why does this matter? As education graduates enter the workforce, they reduce the labor gap for teachers and school counselors. This is gravely important in the communities where many of our regional university partners operate. Our partners’ online programs help students learn how to apply their education to their everyday lives. James Majors earned his MBA from Pittsburgh State University and shared that the professors “…actually took the terminology and the principles and taught you how to use them in practical application. We oftentimes would read scenarios that were semi-real world, where you would have to implement whatever lesson that you were learning...”

Our Communications and Brand team gathered last week in Dallas to “cook” up their strategy to support Risepoint and our university partners in 2025. As a remote-first organization, we look forward to opportunities to collaborate in person and have fun!

At the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) Annual Meeting, Jay Hatcher partnered with CGS President, Suzanne Ortega to deliver opening remarks, followed by David Capranos’ presentation on Friday, “Online Student Preferences: A Review of the 2024 Voice of the Online Learner Survey.” We appreciate the opportunity to connect with thought leaders in higher education. Thank you, CGS, for hosting a successful annual meeting!

Melissa Renken shared that graduating with her MA in History from Eastern Washington University empowered her to gain a deeper understanding of herself. She said, "I've experienced and learned so much about who I am. Not just as a student but as a human being, and who I want to be in the world."
