Last week, I had the privilege of presenting Ric's winning solution at the @Virginia Governor's Housing Conference! 🌊✨ One moment that really stuck with me: an audience member got emotional, sharing the toll recovery has taken on her community—but also her excitement about the work the RISE Resilience Innovations winners would be doing. Hearing her story was both powerful and motivating! ❤️ It was also fantastic to connect in person with so many incredible folks, including Charlie Sidoti, Stephen Brandt, Jonathan Gonzalez, Paul Robinson, Betsy Hnath, Ruby Foley, Douglas Wurst, Amber Hamilton (she/her), Sara Brown and Jay Grant. 👏 And it was my first time sharing a stage with mostly women 💪👩💼—Emmalina Glinskis, Erin Rothman, and Karen Lindquist. So inspiring, and I hope to do it more often! I also learned about exciting new public-private financial models being developed by the Center for Public Enterprise—such important work for resilience and recovery efforts. Paul Williams On a lighter note, I skipped my heels and barely cleared the podium 😅—but hopefully, our work still stood tall! RISE Resilience Innovations, a Virginia-based nonprofit focused on climate adaptation, awarded $1.2 million in funding to five winners of the Riverine Community Resilience Challenge. Funding will support projects aimed at strengthening flood resilience in Southwest VA, including our project with InnSure and HR&A Advisors to create a Total Cost of Risk Simulator that will help communities manage the uninsured flooding-related risks that impact a locale’s protection gap. Meet the winners of the RISE Riverine Community Resilience Challenge and learn about their innovative solutions to riverine flooding across Southwest Virginia. Inspired by the massive devastation left behind by September’s Hurricane Helene, along with two catastrophic floods in 2021 and 2022, Challenge winners will receive up to $375,000 to pilot their cutting-edge ideas through 2025. Beyond financial support, RISE is providing Challenge winners technical, government, and business mentoring, investor matchmaking, customized accelerator programs, and more. Big News! We’re thrilled to announce that PRAM has been selected as a winner of the RISE Resilience Innovations Riverine Community Resilience Challenge alongside Mērak Labs Labs! We’ll be piloting our riverine flash flood alerting solution in the living lab of Southwest Virginia to help protect people and property against the devastating impacts of intensifying storms and flooding.
