This time last year, RoadPitch took 4 black tech founders to pitch 3 times a day for 6 days across the West Coast. Here is how it went: We took an early flight from San Francisco to Southern California and started our LA stop in Irvine of all places. Our morning demos were at the Microsoft Technology Center, where we were hosted by Sonya Weaver-Johnson and Ali Mazaheri. We appreciated Renee Johnson and the other BAM members who attended our demo. Shoutout to Scott Fox 🦊 and Orange County OC Startup Council for helping to get their community to Microsoft for our founders. From Irvine we drove to Downtown LA, where Marie Smith and Data 360 Network welcomed us with open arms and provided a space for our founders to pitch in the afternoon. 🙌🏿 Huge thanks to Dream Hollywood Hotel for hosting our evening event. We had a great turnout and our local LA community was in full effect! But you know the deal! There can only be one winner! In this finale of the tour we got to in enjoy the city of Las Vegas ♠️♥️ Our founders got a chance to pitch at Black Fire Innovation! Special thanks to Zachary Miles, Esq. for helping us with our demo and giving us a tour of your facility! (Check them out, they're doing some dope things!) The Vegas evening event was a special one. Our team was recognized by Senator Jacky Rosen and Congressman Steven Horsford. We were hosted by Melvin Valentine Jr and Nevada Partners, Inc. They helped us put on a great event! But our stop in Vegas wouldn’t have had much success without Mario Mitchell, General Parner of Mech Ventures, for making things happen behind the scenes. We had several startups pitch (even two from our previous cohort 👀) but there could only be one winner. The founder who won #RoadPitchVegas is Osarodion Victory I. with AERO AI 👏🏿👏🏿 Congrats on the dub🎉 🏆 and we wish you much success! For those who know Xavior Motley and me, our journey began with a simple idea rooted in footwear. Like billions worldwide, we understood the value of shoes and sought to preserve them using innovative spray-on technology. This original idea, conceived in 2018 after writing 10 ideas a day on the white board, eventually steered us toward the glove industry—particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Today, I’m declaring a 🚨State of Emergency🚨 for the Short-Term Rental industry in the Greater Houston Metroplex! Last week, my team #Workbnb did a phenomenal job producing “Creator-style” content to raise awareness for #HurricaneBeryl #Lineworkers ⚡️🔋⚡️🔋 who are currently sleeping in sub-par/ dehumanizing conditions. After weeks of tracking the storm’s path and making landfall on July 8th, we have confirmed reports of workers sleeping in their trucks, or in tents, or in man camps with semi-trailers stacked with bunks, porta potties, and mobile showers! 🤯🤯🤯 Well, I believe traveling workers matter and I’m not satisfied with essential workers not progressing in modern times. And for us at Workbnb, Inc | Techstars '22, the numbers don’t lie. 12,000 journeymen #linemen from 17 states have traveled down to South, Texas to support local utility crews restore power to millions of customers covering 9,444 square miles across nine counties! 😳😳😳 They deserve better housing options and we have a network of hosts stepping up to display their world famous “southern hospitality.” Within four days, we have activated dozens workforce rentals ready for immediate move-in spanning the Texas Coast and Southern Texas, including Lake Jackson, Freeport, Sugarland, Surfside beach, Corpus Christi. 🤠 Our goal is to supply and fill 50-100 doors going into the weekend and next week as high summer heat mixed with 50% humidity continues. 🥵 I also believe more rental owners are turning to mid-term rentals in order to meet this demand, as well as in response to stricter regulations imposed by a number of states clamping down on stays of under 30 nights.
